All is well with Checks today. He presented me with a little clear pukus before breffis; probably showing me how starving and neglected he is. He did eat a little breffis, then stared at me, like....."is that all?".....so gave him more. He held it down, so I guess his tummy is okay.
This `15 minute early stuff is confusing when yer not yet awake....gees, it's +1 already. I hate to waste a strip on what will probably be a food spike, but I can't be sure.

Back: well if this 98 is a food spike, I can forget about going anywhere today.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98

You mean you had plans that didn't include testing all day?

Checks, try to keep it steady today. It's lev, you know.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98

Morning!! Uh Oh Checks you gonna keep your bean home all day?? That's not so fair!!
Hope he levels out & has his nadir later as he should on lev...Looking so very good though!!
Hope you have a very good green day!! Hugs & Lubs from us!!! :-D :-D :-D

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Checkers is looking excellent this morning! I love how is SS is looking since Lev!

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Settle down Barbie, settle down. *heart beating rapidly*

At little after +2, he tested at 23!!! WHAT???.....FREAKING OUT I ran for the Karo bottle, and smeared fingerfuls in and on his mouth.....then thought 'this is ridiculous", so tested again twice...and got 82 and 88. that's better.
No I wasn't looking upside down on meter.

He refused food, just turned tail on it, not interested.
Now my cat is Karo'd for nothing....I feel sick.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Well, at least we will know what's behind the next set of numbers. Also, you just found a way to get out of the house for a few minutes.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Well, the good news is that HC is in and out quickly.

And maybe the take away message is to re-test BEFORE you reach for the HC if you think it's a wonky number.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Sienne, a person with a brain would have done that, but when I saw 23, my brain flew out my ears. nailbite_smile

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88?

Hi Barb, It sounds like the day is playing tricks on you--must be the time-change transition. It looks like Checkers is still coming down from his yellow last night (PMPS +1) and that you are experiencing overlap today at AMPS (the nadir from the previous cycle had not yet been reached). It will be interesting to see what effect the Karo has and how long it takes to wear off. Should be an interesting day in many ways! I hope you get out to do your errands.

Check back with you later,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. fabulous  cycle yesterday!

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+3/121

121 not bad, so far, for a cat that's be Karofied.

Ella, how in the world do you know that any particular number for today, is from last night's shot?
Once I understand it, it will stay in my head. Until then, I'm afraid I'll be asking the same questions every day.
I read the article about the difference between Lev and Lantus.

Is there a sticky that explains all this, crossover, layover and overlap? I feel like a science project.
Okay, i added a couple of words.....I learned layover from Marje and Mike.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+3/121

Hi again, Barb,
Of course I don't "know" that the dropping numbers this morning are a continuation of the previous cycle. I just assume it to be so because it is too early in this morning's cycle for the Lev. to begin to kick in. Normally you have about 4 hours for a dose to start to kick in. That's why we say that the number you are shooting at AMPS is not for "now", but for 4 hours or so from now. So typically you would expect the numbers to rise a little before onset begins, somewhere between +4 and +5. The previous shot is beginning to wear off and the present shot hasn't yet begun to take effect. However, if the numbers are still falling--as they were this morning--you have to assume that the previous shot has not yet begun to wear off and that you are, in fact, at nadir or continuing a surf from the nadir of the previous shot. I don't see any numbers beyond the +1 from last night's PM cycle on Checkers' SS, so we don't have the data to support my "hypothesis".

Does this make sense to you? It is how I understand how Lev. works (ECID). Rusty doesn't have overlapping cycles, so I haven't actually experienced this phenomenon. Gracie has these types of cycles, so I hope that Marje will drop by later to correct me if I'm wrong, or to give you more information.

bbl,

Ella

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Ella, it all made sense, until +6, 'cause I don't know if that if from today's shot, or last night's nadir.
I'm not going to try to figure it out. I'll just deal with what's in front of me for now. If it's low, it's getting yummies.

ps, I can't fit all the tests in the subject line, so deleting earlier ones, not just trying to make it look good

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

wow, quite the ride you are on! nice to see the lower numbers, even though it's a tad stressful! good luck! you are doing an amazing job!

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Pip, you ain't kidding on the stress here.
Linda, yeah, Checks can't believe his good luck today

So Ella, am I correct, that this 41 at +6, is the peak from the lev, 18 hours ago? Wow!

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Barb....you are so funny. :-D :-D the only time Mike and I use the term " layover" is if he gets stuck in an airport somewhere  To my knowledge, it is not a term used in insulin cycles :-D :-D

I think Ella is right on....I think he nadired earlier today from his shot last night. Because he went low at +6 again today, I'm thinking that is his onset from this mornings shot. What that tells me is you should start looking to see if this becomes a pattern and feed him at +5 or 5.5. We also try to anticipate Gracie's onset and feed before and so does Jill with Alex. Again, this is just my speculation but it's worthwhile to give it a shot and see if that helps him from dipping at what appears to be onset. He's getting lovely overlap :-D YES!!!

Let me know if I sound like blahblahblah

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Wow!! Checks is definitely having quite the ride today. Barb, I love the term "karofied". You are doing great and remember to breathe!

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Golly, Barb, I don't know. Let's see what happens next! Yesterday he had a 41 at +6. I would be more inclined to say that the 47, like the 41 yesterday, is not a late nadir from last night's cycle, but belongs to the present cycle. I hope that Marje will take a look at Checkers' SS later. If you are not able to get today's numbers into your SS yet, It would help if you could keep a running record of Checkers' numbers today on your initial post. Just stick it at the top and add to it as you go along (be sure to add what you fed, when). We know that the +3 is a Karo spike. AMPS, +1, and +2 are all basically the same number, as is +4. The 47 at +6 suggests that this morning's shot has kicked in. We will have to wait and see if it is the nadir of the present cycle. You gave "yummies", so they will also have an effect on the cycle. Do you normally feed something around +5 or +6?

I wish I could be of more help, but my experience with Lev. is pretty much confined to what Rusty does and what I have read. ECID!!!

Ella

p.s. I see that as I was struggling to write this, Marje has given you lots of great info.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Barb...I think Ella and I are on the same page....the +6 is onset of the current shot given this morning. I have to go get Gus some pill pockets but will STUDY Checks SS when I get back.

And I just thought perhaps you did see "layover" in your condo because I often post from my iPad and it has auto correct so if it didn't realize that " carryover" is a word...it might have changed it and I didn't catch the change :-D :-D :-D

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Marje, I forgot you have a scientific mind and would take me literally :-D Kind of how you gotta watch what you say to a doctor.
I used those words to be silly.

I couldn't really feed the onset specifically 'cause he kind of eats small amounts all day. Because he's so thin, I don't miss an opportunity to feed.
This is strange. I feel like I'm feeding yesterday's numbers, and I don't know when today begins. :YMSIGH:

Too too weird. How could all this be happening, just because I changed insulin?
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

And Georgia's right. I hold my breath a lot. Especially when the test meter beeps...I'm afraid to look, for fear it's midnight and the bell's about to toll, and the chariot will turn back into a pumpkin.

I'll be glad to get back to normal times tomorrow. I've been slightly off my posted number times all day. But they were basically correct.

Re: 3/10 Checkers amps 100 +1/98 +2/ 88+4/91+6/47

Awww, Barb! :YMHUG:

I don't know anything about Lev... but it sounds like you are getting onset almost on top of nadir from the previous cycle. confused_cat

Could you feed higher carb food around that time to slow him down?

I would have run for the Karo after a 23 too!!! :o

Re: 3/10 Checkers pmps~108+1/156

Hi again, Barb,
You did great today. Everything looks just fine. That's a beautiful curve for the daytime cycle. Congratulations!! Pat yourself on the back, sit down, put your feet up, and enjoy the evening. Be sure to get a bedtime test.

Lev. does take some getting used to, but you will soon begin to see patterns in how Checkers does with it and you can try various things to "manage" the cycle, if you need to. For now, just try to keep good records. Once you figure out what his trends are, it will be much easier.

We'll be driving to the city tomorrow, so I won't be on the board until late in the day or the evening.

I'll be watching Checkers this evening for a while. How is he feeling? How are you feeling?

Hugs,
Ella

Re: 3/10 Checkers pmps~108+1/156

Thanks Pip

Ella, he feels so good. He was wrestling with Tux today, something he hasn't done in ages. I don't encourage rough play, because of his back, but he knows his body.....I hope. I cringed when little Clancy jumped on him yesterday.

I know it's supposed to take at least a couple of weeks to start working, but I was wondering if the Duralactin was starting to work.
I'm good too.....thanks for asking about us both. :-D

Re: 3/10 Checkers pmps~108+1/156

What an amazing day for Checkers, you must love that he's calmed down quite a bit on the lev. Did Checkers happen to get any pancakes with his corn syrup this morning? Your condo cracked me up   I think i'd be smearing karo all over Leo too if i saw a 23 on the meter......that must have gotten your ticker goin a million miles a minute.

Have a great evening Barb and Checks!

Re: 3/10 Checkers pmps~108+1/156

Barb:

Sorry   I don't mean to seem like a humorless fuddy dud      I knew you were being funny and I was trying to be funny back but I was in a hurry and .....well, I hate to admit this but I'm not NEARLY as funny as Mike

I looked at Checker's SS and really, just the last few days does it look to me like some kind of a pattern might be forming. I'll say it upfront that Jill and Libby are THE BEST for deciphering lev patterns...they can see "invisible numbers" (numbers that might have been generated if one had tested), inverted curves, etc etc. BUT...Checker's SS looks alot like Gracie's. Right now (and I do emphasize "now), it does look to me like the last two daytime cycles have him nadiring at about +4. It's always hard to tell exactly when there is food manipulation involved but we gotta do what we gotta do and I face the same thing with Gracie's SS. At any rate....it also looks to me like he onsets about +6 as we were thinking. When he's low like that and you feed him, he starts to come up a bit and then the feeding at around +11/+11.5 and PMPS brings him up more...but then he goes down again as he nadirs between +1 and +4.

That's what I'm seeing from the last two a.m. cycles where you have lots of tests. It will be interesting to see if he continues this kind of pattern. It's a great cycle...nice overlap. YAY CHECKS!!!

Hope you have a great evening, Barb, and it's wonderful to hear he is playing!!

Re: 3/10 Checkers pmps~108+1/152 +2/195

Hi barb - wow on the past couple of days. I am sorry I ave missed so much of it. Life has just gotten in the way. I cant help at all with the Lev stuff either, no experience with it at all. Checkers looks great, and I am sure you will figure out the pattern soon. Good luck with everything. I still think the change to Lev has been a good one.

I don't have the scientific mind oor the Lev knowledge, but it looks to me like Checkers had a lovely day. I'm glad you're able to catch up on some sleep tonight...enjoy!!
