Good morning!

Zoey's number is amazingly low. I won't jinx it by saying it, but maybe her numbers will go G.R.E.E.N. today. This is her best start to the day yet.

I'm testing feeding her on a regular schedule, the same amount of food each feeding. I'd been switching it up according to her vocals but it seems logical that if she was fed consistently the same each feeding, and on time, that she would regulate to that. So... yesterday was day one of the same feeding schedule.

Thank you all again for your guidance on the syringes and yesterday's saga.

Hi Rose, I just caught up on your yesterday condo and the mix up with the syringes- wow! If you decide to go to WalMart for the Relion Syringes, just like everyone else said, don't confuse the pharmacy clerk by mentioning the half unit syringes- I had to go to 3 different WalMarts before I found one who just got the box without telling me they didn't carry 1/2 unit marked syringes :rolleyes::rolleyes: Finally, they built a new store in my hometown and they just get me what I want without me asking any questions! And these employees say that the older stores, the customer service can be non-existant. :rolleyes:

My vet started us off with BD 3/10mlcc;6mm 31g syringes, which I loved-but they cost over twice as much as the Relions. :oops:
 
I'm going to respond here to your pm question about Zoey's dose. You were concerned that you may have inadvertantly increased the dose last night and this morning. Believe me, most people have had the same "yikes" moment that you're having. We've had people give the wrong insulin even. Once someone gave 5u for the first shot instead of 0.5u - these things happen. Fortunately, you've caught things and no harm's done.

Even though she got to green today, I would go back to the dose you think you have been giving (not last night and this morning), when you shoot tonight. You've got your new syringes now and they've got 0.5u markings. Things will get back on track and it's important to increase methodically in small increments. Also you can correct her ss to show what you think she's really gotten in each dose.

I'd also draw up a sample syringe (you can use an old syringe and draw up tea/coffee) and hang onto it as a comparison for your future shots. It really helps to have something there to confirm when you're drawing up a dose.

Does that make sense?
 
I wanted to add that since she may have gotten more insulin last night and this morning, it's important to give several cycles now at her "normal" 2u dose to let things settle down before doing any increases of her dose. Sometimes when a cat has been accidentally given too much insulin, the results are seen in the next day or two rather than immediately. So it's good to just wait for a few days and then re-evaluate.
 
Zoey thanks you all. She was very happy about it and when we went out for supper tonight, she decided to dress up in her new favorite color. She's really quite proud:
