So I think it was more than my imagination and my mind playing tricks on me yesterday...Trix was definitely off yesterday, and by the time I got home from work (their dinner time), her appy was what I consider to be fairly crappy. She was there waiting for dinner with everyone else, but not very interested in eating it. I started noticing the trend a little bit Friday night but thought I was imagining it, then saw it a little more before I left work yesterday, then saw it a little more from DH's reports throughout the day yesterday. She didn't have the sparkle or energy, and she was starting to do things she does when she doesn't feel well - sleeping in certain spots, her fur was feeling dry, she was only skimming the top of her fuds and not "digging in", and she wasn't just turning her head away when she was done "being served", but actually scrunching her head away and burying it in the kitty bed or back of the couch or wherever she happened to be at the time. She WAS eating, but definitely not normally.
Maybe I jumped the gun, but it was just too much of a deja vu to earlier this year, so I started her back up on the Zeniquin last night - before she appeared REALLY unwell like she did back in January. Within about 3.5 hours of taking that pill, she was already appearing to feel much better and her appy was coming back. Trix was snoozing on the couch when I put a plate of Fancy Feast on the floor for civvie Frankie. I was going to prep a plate for Trix next; however, she caught a whiff of Frankie's fuds, jumped off the couch, and pushed Frankie out! I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but I do know when she was sick back in January, the Zeniquin kicked in very quickly - so it is possible that it could have already been helping her feel better just a few hours after her first dose.
Today her appy is pretty good, but not quite where I've gotten used to seeing it...but better than pre-Zeniquin last evening. The sparkle is back in her eyes - they look bigger and brighter again. I don't think she's 100%, but I do think she's better than what I was seeing yesterday.
I also see that she's already not flinging her food as much again...same thing as last time on ABs - flinging before ABs, not so much after ABs. I've talked to vetty about this before; unfortunately because Trix is not a candidate for dental because of her kidneys, we may end up having to do "pulse ABs" to keep whatever is going on in her mouth under control. This was sort of a trial here, to make sure it wasn't a coincidence last time. It does look like the ABs help her mouth situation.
I also don't know if it's just a coincidence of timing, or if there really is something about the blood/urine draw that brings this on since this is the third time I've seen it happen with her in the last year. But maybe it was just an AB timing - maybe she needed a longer course of ABs and she would have started feeling icky by yesterday because of that anyway (as of yesterday, she'd been off the ABs for 2 weeks).
The good thing about the Zeniquin is that it's a small pill and it fits in her evening gelcap - no banana meds, and no extra gelcaps.
I'm still fairly stressed (as you can probably tell by my all-over-the-map rambling), but nearly as much as I was yesterday. Thank you, everyone, for all your support and encouragement. This really is the most awesome group of people ever

!
I'm supposed to go out to lunch with my family today to a great little tavern that has 75 cent martinis; however, this place is about an hour's drive away and yet another nasty winter storm is in the forecast
, so we may end up cancelling (e-mail just came in from my Dad....75 cent martini lunch is cancelled
... I hate winter

!!!!). It hasn't started yet, but is supposed to begin soon. Bummer...I was looking forward to it. DH is off at another Master's swim meet, but should be home before the bad weather starts - these meets are always pretty early.
Have a great day, L&LL!
