OTJ Trial Day 11 - AMBG 119 - +3 112 - PMBG 157 +3 115

Simon hacked up a small furball a few hours before his 157 PMBG, but he did bring himself down about
40 points 3 hours later.

Trial Day 12, AMPS 146, not interested in breakfast, only a few bites. May have eaten in last few hours,
overnight bowls are clean, also still the possibility of more furball to come I suppose.

Searched FDMB for failed trials & related SS's, and I think I might be looking at one.... :-|
These aren't the kind of numbers I'd be comfortable with not testing until an OTJ "spot check" a month later.
If he was still on insulin, I'd be increasing his dose any day now...

Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

Don't jump for the syringe quite yet. I'd get a test approx. 3 hours after Simon eats. If this is a hairball, you'll know soon enough. In the meantime, see if Simon's pancreas kicks in and brings his numbers down.

I don't want to jump the gun, but on the other hand I don't want to bury my head in the sand :lol:

He just finished brekkie (and they all want a 2nd one). I'll test approx 3 hours after Simon's finished eating.

I agree with Sienne.

Remember Ruben threw that 235 the night before his party? His numbers a looking great.

I'd also recommend you check weekly to start out with and then ease into monthly.

Come on Simon....just a hairball blip!

gosh, i don't want to rain on simon's parade, but i'm seeing an upwards trend.
bruce, it's up to you, but if the trend continues... i wouldn't let this go more than another day or two before resuming insulin.
we'd like to see a strong remission... especially with kitties who have returned from the Falls.

Simon posts his best number since Day 5 :roll: . He's definitely bought himself some time with that impressive drop,
syringes back in drawer :lol: I know him too, he can take a ridiculously long time to clear all of a furball.

I know we're not free & clear yet, as you said Jill, "we'd like to see a strong remission".
To keep up the trial analogy, we don't want a "split decision" or a hung jury ;-)

yaaaay! happy to see simon's numbers come down!

ideally, you want to see am & pm bg numbers green with only an occasional blue number under 120. it's what we look for before officially calling a kitty OTJ. just as you saw happen when simon went OTJ the first time...

PS -- sometimes feeding a small minimeal 3 - 4 hours before taking an ambg/pmbg helps to pull those numbers down. i don't remember if it's been mentioned or if you're already doing it.

I have been feeding about 3 hours before PMBG, and checking @+3 after AMBG meal as a rule (all those +3s on SS)
Today he didn't really eat a mini-meal until +2, so I tested @+5.
As you can see, the results are varied, but he has been able to bring higher #s down.

The concern is obviously what you pointed out and I see - it's the Blues that are supposed to be occasional,
not the greens. ;-) The term "sputtering pancreas" comes to mind. If he needs more help, that's what I'm here for :smile:

don't get discouraged, ruben gave me a 235 the day before the OTJ party- but his was fur ball related, the experts here won't let you have an otj if they didn't feel you were safe.
simon you can do it.
 
another thought is that sometimes cats take longer than 3 hours to drop from food. Maybe try feeding at +8 instead of +9 to see if that makes a difference.

CONGRATULATIONS!​

Honey gave some mid-blues until I figured out when to feed her and when to test - her numbers come down about 1.5 hours after feeding.
Guess its just finding out the times.
