Good Morning, Lantus Land!
First off, here's the link to yesterday's condo, the early blue numbers of which are stress-related due to a run-in with a neighbour's tomcat and a minor laceration that Karre sustained, and the later purrfect green numbers of which speak of the high degree to which His Majesty's pancreas must have healed: Karre's 28th July Condo
And the overview:
28th July AMPS 6.2/112 --- Shot 0.1u --- Stress spike due to altercation with "foreign" cat.
(+2) 7.9/142
(+2.5) 7.8/140
(+3) 7.3/131 --- Yay, Mr. P showed up.
(+4) 6.3/113 --- And pitched in purrfectly.
(+6) 4.4/79 --- Love it.
(+10) 4.5/81
(+11) 4.5/81
PMPS 5.3/95 --- Shot 0.1u
29th July AMPS 4.6/83 --- Shot 0.1u
I got to thinking about feline first aid yesterday. Irrigating the wound with sterile saline solution seems to have benefited Karre in that it rinsed out any dirt etc., but I kept thinking that if it was *me* who had sustained a cut, in order to stave off any infection I would have irrigated with sterile saline *and* cleaned the wound with an alcohol wipe or swabbed it with alcohol. After BG tests, we wipe the test spot on Karre's ear with alcohol swabs of course. But that puncture is so minute that any sting caused by the alcohol has never once elicited any sort of reaction from Karre. Had alcohol in any form come in contact with the small laceration on his flank, though, it would probably have stung quite a bit, even with a 10% alcohol & sterile saline solution, which is what I would have considered using on Karre, had I had any data or experience to know it was safe and acceptable. Have any of you had experience in treating minor cuts/scratches in your own cats?
WCR couldn't be better. The small laceration on Karre's left flank is healing well, there is no wetness, no bleeding, no smell, and no residual tenderness or sensitivity to touch. He's had a spot of breakfast, but I've noticed - thanks for making me pay attention, Camille! - that he normally likes to come and eat when he most likely feels the Lantus nudge him towards nadir (from about +1 to +3, usually). He likes to nap from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, so about 3 out of 4 days he won't pay a visit to the kitty buffet during those hours, but rather has his snackus after sleepus (ca. around +9). His appetite is perfect. Outside of nap-time, he is active and alert and becomes very playful when we go for catwalks through the garden. All 5 Ps present.
We'd like to see a couple of all-green cycles before revisiting the topic of You-Know-Where, just for good measure. Maybe His Majesty will oblige today
Happy cycling, everyone! Enjoy your Sunday!
