HIIIII!! I finally bought some calipers. If someone could help me. I've looked at this post and watched the video but I'm confused as to the measurements for 1u on a BD syringe in NZ. We only have the BD utrafine U-100 syringes with 1 unit markings. When I measure on my syringes what 1 unit is I get 1.2mm but the post says:
BD Ultrafine II (Canada) 1.5mm = 1u
BD Ultrafine II (US) 1.62mm = 1u

I'm confused as to why they are so different. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Maybe I'm measuring this wrong....

ETA: I just checked that my syringes are made in the US. Maybe it is 1.62mm for me?

Also we upped Mo to 4.25 today. Show me some blues, buddy!

It is confusing, isn’t it ? If you don’t get an answer, it honestly doesn’t matter. Your measurements might be different than someone else’s. As long as you give the sample dose each time and increase or decrease by the same amount, that is all that matters.

I assume it's because different manufactures make the same brand syringe in different countries...so some small differences.

You can just measure your own - it's what I did. The directions (from that post):

Please be sure and measure the millimeters in 1u on your syringe type. To do this, find as many near perfect syringes as possible where the zero mark lines up perfectly at the top. Measure all of them to see if you can get a pretty consistent measurement in mm for 1u.
Once you do that, you can calculate the remainder of your doses.​

I found four syringes with good markings - a magnifying glass or eye loup helps a ton. Measured the four and took the average for 1u. Then, used that number to measure other units (e.g., 0.5u, 0.25, etc.). I saved the units and measurements off on a tab on my spreadsheet (feel free to look but don't copy as I use SureComfort syringes from the US).

Hope that helps some - calipers really helped me give consistent doses. There is a learning curve but it gets easier every time!
 
I measured 10 units, then divided by 10. I found it easier to be consistent on where I placed the calipers to measure that way. I agree with the others, don't worry about exactly what the measurement is. For those Canadian BD's, I've seen people use from 1.4 to 1.6mm. Just pick one and stick with it. I found the math easier for .25 units with 1.6. :p
 
Thank you all so much for your help!!! All your comments have been so useful. I've decided to go with 1.4mm as my 1 unit as it's closest to what we have been giving him as 1u. Now to teach Tim how to do it!

I found out today that Ziwipeak do cool new flavours in NZ that are even lower in carbs than their original ones, so i bought Mo a couple. He really enjoyed them! TBH he enjoys everything except for Turkey and Giblets FF. He's sitting with me right now as I type this and purring. Must be because I'm discussing food.

I shall be testing him in half an hour (1.30am) then I will go to bed.

Lamb is my favorite. NZ has the best lamb. They're so cute, but I'll eat them anyway. Kumara is a sweet potato. Lamb roast with kumara is what my friend made me when I went to Christchurch in 1982. Lamb is very expensive here.
