Hi guys. Grace has been OTJ since December 2009, and her mom has been spot checking her religiously. Good BGs and no blood ketones. (For those who forgot - Grace is a two time post DKA survivor with HCM whose mom lives far up in the mountains by a Buddhist monastery. No computer access, etc., and three hours - in summer- from the vet. Can be snow bound and no access to vet in winter.)

Anyway, the BGs have been creeping up over the past 10 days, and are now around the 140-160 range. This morning was 164. Doesn't much matter what time of day she is tested, how close to her meals, etc. (still on raw diet and doing great). Ketones still negative. Looks good, but may be a bit more lethargic. I suggested starting back on 0.25u Lev for now and watching. She has an appointment with vet on Dec 2 and will check for infection, teeth, etc. I figure that's a nice gentle start - we can go up if needed, but hopefully that will let the pancreas rest for now.

No updates to her SS right now - I will get the numbers later and add them in.

Have I forgotten anything?

Thanks.

before i saw your posts, karen...i thought the best thing Nova Scotia gave the world was Sarah McLachlan...

you have changed my opinion on that...you are awesome

Teeth could be the culprit. Any chance of Grace "snacking" on contraband or even a change in the supplements that Grace's bean is adding to the raw? Some supplements can have sugar in them.

Karen, i forget Grace's age, but if she's a senior kitty, i'd ask for a thyroid panel too. jmho.

ps - and i agree with Celi. you are awesome :)

Guys! *blush*

No contraband to snack on, and the supplement (TC Instincts) to her raw (lamb) is the same as she has been using for the past 6 months.

Grace is about 10. No signs of HyperT - she's actually put a few ounces on. But might as well do the whole shebang since it will probably be her last vet visit until the spring.

By the way, at +6, she was down to 43! Amazing what 0.25u can do. I had her Mom give her some low carb food since she was going to be at the Abbey until this evening. Might be all she needed to poke those BGs back down. (Conan was like that ... he would start creeping up, and one shot would knock him back down for another few months!)

I remember how insulin sensitive Grace was. I guess she still is! I guess for future reference, a starting dose of 0.1 might work better for Grace. Wouldn't it be great if that little bit is all she needs?

A vet visit sounds like a good idea. I don't remember, did Grace have pancreatitis along with her DKA? I wonder if she just has little flares that make her numbers go up and make her not feel good.

Her +12 was 4.5 (81), so she opted not to shoot and will recheck in the morning.

We don't know if she had pancreatitis - although I think that was possible. Remember how horrifyingly terrible her old vets were? How they misdiagnosed everything and nearly killed her many times over - they mistreated her DKA, never heard of R insulin, refused to accept that she might have had a stroke, missed her heart problem .... what a nightmare.

So yes, that's a possibility. Thanks for bringing it up.
