When heating the ear, am I primarily trying to heat the tip and sweet spot, or the base, or entire ear? I have been using a rice sock and the ear feels warm but some pricks result in no blood. What is the preferred warm the ear method?

Do I feed breakfast, test, then dose? Or test, then feed, then dose? Is it better to wait a certain span of time between any of these?

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty new here myself, but I have found that if I warm FCC's whole ear it is easier because I don't have to worry that I haven't gotten the right place. Also, he seems to have gotten used to the rice bag being placed on his ear, but he did not enjoy it when j was stroking it or targeting a particular area.

  • Test, feed, dose. I started doing it over 20 minutes because I wasn't able to get tests, but now I am for fifteen.
People who are much more experienced than I can probably give you better advice.

You can warm the whole ear. Massaging it towards the tip also helps to get the blood to flow.

You want to test before feeding and give insulin after feeding.

Thank you so much! So test and feed...then wait how long before I dose? Which is better: 1) test and feed, then go upstairs to get ready in the morning and dose about 30-40 mintues after presenting food. Or 2) test and feed, then dose right when she's done eating.

You can dose right after she's done eating With Basaglar you can shot 15 minutes later after eating. As long as you know she will eat within 1-2 hours because Basaglar doesn't kick in until about 2 hours

With Tyler I would give him his Lantus as soon as he finished eating
