One thing that is very important to note in terms of Hendrick's numbers: We are still transitioning to lower-carb, albeit just at the tail end of the transition
Purina DM Savory Selects has been something he eats really well, we were stuffing calories into him to ward off ketones and so he was getting snacks (1-2 tablespoons) of that at +2 and +3, typically. Or even a few tablespoons at shot time if he was showing no interest in other food.
It also seemed to be helping him not dive so fast but we are reducing the amount of DM Savory Selects that he eats every day little by little. Yesterday, in total across both AM and PM cycle he got no more than a few tablespoons of it. The rest was 5% calories from carbs or lower (Tiki, FF pate/Friskies pate)
The fact that he'll even eat the FF pate is amazing and is very helpful in this effort to make the DM savory selects just a MC snack item for when we want to offset the insulin hit.
When we first moved away from kibble he wouldn't TOUCH pate of any kind. Its almost like getting him used to other more chunky wet food has opened the door. Just now for his 2nd half of brekky at +1 he got FF pate with a re-hydrated Stella and Chewy's Duck Duck Goose morsel mixed in and he demolished what I put in front of him.
From everything all you experts have posted here I know that as we move to less and less of the 10% carb food we may see lower numbers popping up and hence I have made sure I am getting this BG testing down pat so I can monitor as closely as needed. 10 pokes yesterday, new record, and 7 of them solo, also a record. No major incidents or screwups. All went well, he bled well, ears are definitely learning and growing new capillaries
annnnnnnnnnnnd now I've just jinxed myself, dammit
