Yesterday.

Yellow seems to be her color of choice lately.
I think she looks better in shades of blue and green.

She's been rather finicky with her food, so I've been trying to mix it up w/new flavors, new additions.
I went to Petco, bought several new low carb/low phos. foods; last night her Wellness Turkey got a tiny bit of Wellness Core Beef/Venison/Lamb mixed in. She LOVED it! Then puked. Oops.
Also found out last night that parmesan cheese is a no-go; I only had the 'good' stuff in the fridge, maybe she would prefer the parm in the green can...
Her usual tuna flakes and freeze dried shrimp aren't nearly as enticing as they used to be. And she stopped going gaga over the freeze dried chicken a while ago. Hmmmm... still experimenting...

Wishing everyone a healthy day! Sending good warm thoughts to those in the snow storm zone!

Morning Josie, quite a few kitties are picky lately. It's almost if they're all conniving together. So Ripley doesn't like parmesan cheese. Maggie is on a Merrick Cowboy Cookout kick lately. Have you tried that one on Ripley. The phosphorus is okay on it. Have a nice Friday.

Thank you for visiting, Devon and Ann!
I tried Cowboy Cookout a few mos. ago, but she didn't like the chunks. I just bought a can, I'll experiment with food-processing before serving to see if that makes a difference.

Today's recap:
AMPS: 232 (ate more than half of food, maybe tired of flavor? gave 1.1ml Clavamox)

Good evening, LL! It's good to be on the board again!

I’m leaving for a trip tomorrow am, returning Wed night. DH is in charge of taking care of Ripley. He probably won’t be posting here, but hopefully updating her SS; and he’ll give me updates, which I’ll try to post from my phone ~ I’m sure I’ll have time, as much of my trip will be standing in lines (Disneyland!).

One less thing for him to worry about: No more squirting Clavamox into her mouth! I stopped by my vet today to see about getting an AB w/o sweetener (her Clavamox has made her numbers rise, and she still has about 1 ½ wks left to go). He said that he didn’t think the Clavamox contained any glucose; when I told him it was sticky and sweet, he gave me a funny look and asked if I had tasted it. I said it was sweet and bubble gum flavored; he laughed and said he had never heard of anyone tasting the AB.

So, he gave me a syringe w/a different AB to take home and inject. Cefovecin. It lasts 2 weeks, so it should finish out her month-long UTI treatment. He also said there are no side effects, and is gentle on her kidneys.

When I asked for a prescription for fluids to treat her kidneys, he said I could just buy a bag from him. I told him I’d rather spend less at a pharmacy. He looked surprised and said he wasn’t sure if I’d need a prescription and that he had never written one out before for fluids, and wasn’t sure if someplace like Walgreens would even carry the correct fluids. He said he would look into it, for he's never written a prescription for fluids before (which means no one's asked for one?). I think I'm educating my vet more than he is me. Do most pet owners give up before even trying/researching treatment (except for FDMB-ers, of course!)? I'll never forget the words I heard upon Ripley's FD diagnosis: "I have bad news. She has diabetes. You might want to consider putting her down." Do most people take their vets' advice as gospel? I know I'm pretty stubborn (Taurus), but I can't imagine just giving up ~ esp. when something is treatable with insulin or subq fluids.

Ripley's doing well! She squawked at me today, much more than yesterday even. She even begged for our dinner tonight ~ something she hasn't done in a couple of months. (DH got annoyed with her begging, but I was overjoyed to see this normal behavior!)

I'm curious about how her numbers will look now that there's no more bubble gum AB; I upped her dose on 1/31 (from .5 to .75) to help with the AB-induced numbers. I told DH to keep an extra eye on her, in case she drops or needs a decrease. I hope this doesn't make him more nervous about taking care of her while I'm gone.

I hope all is well in Lantus Land!

Re: 2/8 Ripley PMPS 207

You'll want the script for Lactated Ringers. I think it's required in Calif?

At least the vet didn't say no, so that's a positive sign!

Relax and have fun on the trip.

Enough fun for all of us back here.

Re: 2/8 Ripley PMPS 207

I'm glad your vet is receptive to you educating him!! Unfortunately, I do think a lot of people take their vets' words as the be all and end all. Vets are great, they have to know a lot, but the don't know our individual kitties the way WE do....

Have a safe and wonderful trip!!!

Re: 2/8 Ripley PMPS 207

Wow...what a story with the vet. He would probably charge you for one bag what you can get 12 for...or close to it.

We have to have a script in AZ and its a pretty lawless state   you don't have to have a script for insulin syringes but yes you do for LRS. The vet just needs to write it for 1000 ml LRS IV fluid bags and be sure he gives you a years worth of refills.

Have fun on your trip...hope Ripley and DH do great!
