Working on an insulin switch here. Have been hearing good things about levemir. Also read that it is good for cats that are not getting improvement on numbers with current insulin.

Second call into the vet today. Hoping to get a prescription written out today. Definately hope to be using it by Sunday. :)

Everyone have a great day!!

I read your post every day, Peggy and wish I had something to contribute. You seem to be doing a great job in a difficult situation with lots of variables. It would be so nice if you could at least get the litter box problem solved. Have you posted on Health and asked specifically about diarrhea and pooping outside the box?

Sue and Oliver

No, I have not posted on health about this. I just don't understand him. He pees in the box just no poop.
He has had the flagyl x2 and food eliminations, fortiflora etc. Maybe the diabetes is wrecking his organs?
My car broke down last week and I cannot afford to have the whole kit and kaboodle at the vet right now.
But last visit all his bloodwork was fine. (nov or dec)

As a matter of fact, last evening I came home to that familiar smell of Mickey poop. I finally found it in my bedroom in 3 places. On my comforter, pillow and in the corner of my room. Comforter is now at the cleaners. cat(2)_steam
After I get it all cleaned up, sheets in washer with loads of bleach. I still smelled it. I found a lump of really old diarreah dried up on the wood floor behind my tv stand in the bedroom. It took a hammer and scraper to even move it. I don't even know how he actually fit himself behind there. Now I know how my cable box plug got bent in half.

I almost have my hands in the air in surrender. But am going to try the insulin switch asap. Second day waiting on the vet to call me back.

I hope that your vet calls you back today. I'm sure it's hard to try to wrestle with mickey's 2 issues at once. Hopefully an insulin switch will help resolve one issue. I think levemir would be better for you than lantus. Plus, since Marcy, Lori and I all switched to that recently you won't be alone in the switch!

I can't understand why Mickey would be peeing in the lb, but not pooping--especially since his poop hasn't been diarrhea lately. Have you ever tried feliway? Some people swear by the collars. You can put one on the cat that he doesn't like and maybe he won't act out behaviorally. I'm not saying that his poop issue is necessarily a behavioral one, but since you've all but ruled out a medical problem, it couldn't hurt to try it. I tried the plug-in diffusers and they didn't work at all. You need lots of them apparently. But maybe the collar would help?

I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for you and yet you seem to handle it with such grace and calm. You're a great cat mama, you know that?

Charliemeow, I did try that feliway plug in. The one day it was plugged in Mickey and Thomas were at it more than normal  Could have been an off day tho.

The vet did call today about the insulin change. He wanted to call me tomorrow because his 2 partners were at a conference about FD. Jackie Rand dvm was a speaker he said, can't remember the other name. Anyway back to my point...lol...He wanted to check because he thought he heard that levemir has to come out of the pen into another container or something..I guess I will find out tomorrow. He suggested a B12 shot for Mick man. But said we would discuss it tomorrow.

KristenP&Sam- In the beginning it was anger, then crying because I could not believe it, now just knock it off and clean it up. Wonder where Mickey is going to get the 35$ for the drycleaning bill...
And thank you for saying I am a great cat momma!!

Wow that is cool your vet is at an FD thing-y! Dr. Rand is kind of a celebrity in my eyes. I think Lev is a good idea, I hope he does great on it! My civvie poops on the carpet sometimes  it seems to be when she has pooped several times recently - even if I have cleaned the box and it has no kitty gifts in it, she'll still go for the carpet at that time. I'm not sure if it's b/c she doesn't feel well, or maybe some kind of instinct to pick a different spot each time (though normally they seem to like the same litter box spot every day, so that may not make sense). Thankfully she always pees there [anti-jinx!!!], and lately is back to box-pooping too. Maybe the vets will have some ideas for you? Seems like they should be able to do something. Poor guy. And my civvie too - nothing we've tried has worked so far either.
