Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Morning! nice amps!   maybe it wasn't too bad of a fur shot. I did have a little chuckle over the needles and the fur. Mannie is a long hair too - always a challenge to get all that fur out of the way.

have a great day guys - maverick sure is off to a great start. GO MAV!

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Nice AMPS for Maverick. Every time I think I do a fur shot, a little of it seems to get inside Maggie. Is Maverick eating better? I just tried Cowboy Cookout by Merrick, and Maggie loved it - it's a little higher carb than her usual.

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Good morning guys ... very nice amps today .. maybe his +3 was just a food spike .. either way, he's looking really good .. have a great day guys!

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Maverick is eating like his old self. Wonder why the lack of appetite perfectly coincided with the OTJ trial. ohmygod_smile

For those with long hair using the long needles, its not really a problem of inserting it -its not seeing the other end to know if the needle is poking through. How do you guys do it? I pull up on his hair to create and indented tent and feel that the skin that is tented is going in the right direction (hard to describe in writing)... so the needle has less chance of going right through.

No chicken dust needed to get him eating either. He even ate a flavour he would only sniff and walk away from yesterday morning (Special Kitty Chicken dinner).

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Nice amps and really nice that Maverick is eating again normally. I'm very happy to read that! Looks like either you didn't have a fur shot or else Maverick's pancreas is working pretty good. :-D

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

i'm one of the odd ones (like you didnt already know)
binks is shorthair, but with that UNBELIEVABLY THICK MANX Undercoat...i shave along the area where i shoot, and i very much prefer 1/2 inch needles...i learned a different shooting technique in the beginning where i raise the skin behind his shoulders, and have only once had the needle go through.

the furshots i've had have all been with 5/16 needles...

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Karrie, I also pull up the hair. I don't like to tent with fingers, 'cause I'm afraid I'm going to stick myself.
Checks is short hair, and I still have to blow the hair away to make a spot sometimes
What a nice am number.
It's wonderful that he's eating well :-D

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

If you push real hard on a syringe after you have shot, a tiny bit is always left in the syringe, but it is a minimal amount--You want to do the shot quickly & efficiently, and that comes with practice, but even the longest timer sometimes makes fur shots...I am sure you are doing a fine job!!
Just look at Maverick's great numbers!
I dont like those long needles because I did too many through & throughs--I like the shorts & also shoot like Celi..
When his numbers were lower, he ate less so his numbers dropped..Right?
That is normal--All in all you are doing great!

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Thanks guys! You keep me grounded

No Maverick is normally very consistent in the overall daily amounts that he eats. He is a free feeder maintaining exactly 15.4lbs. There are some days where his appetite is in the toilet and I don't know why. I will go over his spreadsheet and see if I remember anything or see a trend. I'll post tonight and get some feedback. Maybe it coincides with dose changes - something I'm not sure I looked into.

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Yay! A green start for Mav, even on a possible fur shot! So glad for you guys, Karrie... I know the OTJ trial had you pretty stressed. Things are looking great now! :)

Re: 2/8 Maverick AMPS 93

Karrie, thank you for the idea of chicken dust on civvie's food. He LOVES the fd chicken chunks. I use the dust on Chex food, and never even thought of putting it on Tux's.
Will try that tomorrow.

A double green preshot day! I have to make extra sure tomorrow that I stay consistent on the dosing. I was really confident with the BD's but not so much with the Monojects.

Yah the OTJ trial made my nerves a little itchy lol. I wasn't stressed per say, but kind of anxious. Found out it was because I wasn't in control, Maverick was. With the insulin, I feel like I'm the one in control.

Good luck with the chicken dust Barb. Roni I believe is using a couple temptations treats crushed up. I'm going to try that when the chicken dust isn't tempting for him some days.
