Yowee on morning numbers :YMSIGH: I thought with the flat yellow yestrday, he wouldn't bounce today. Surprise!!
Using Relion meter today, which runs higher than the Pesto I used all last week.
That nasty +1 of 540, showed 411 on the Presto.
All numbers this week will be ReliOn, so will be consistent as much as meters go.

Checkers is his fine and fiesty self today. I dared to move while he was head-butting last night, and got a fat lip. Just once, I'd like to smell just of shampoo, and not sweet flowers, mixed with cat scent. :lol:

I gulped and added 2 drops Karo to his +2 mini meal, to slow down the next drop. I don't know what he did after +4 last night.

I will not cry, I will not cry.

I've had it with trying to avoid big drops. It's not getting us anywhere. I gave 2 drops karo to avoid another big drop, like he did from +1 to +2, and look what I got.....higher!!!

It's crazy that I have to give carb to avoid a dive when his numbers are high to begin with....and then watch him go even higher!!!

I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't!

What in the world am I doing wrong???? :sad:

PS: I don't trust this Relion meter. It's my backup. It is much higher in the high numbers than my Presto.
At +1, I got 540 on relion and 411 on Presto.......out of strips.

Hi guys .. aww barb .. don't cry! You aren't doing anything wrong .. I know it feels like that, but we have to keep telling ourselves that it's not us .. Checkers is feeling good and is feisty .. he knows you are taking care of him and he doesn't have a care in the world .. youre a good momma to your gang!

And, oh yeah, I can't make my SS work. It acts like I'm not signed in. I've been trying for days to invite a collabarator, and it just won't work. It keeps saying, 'sharing is not available at this time'
But today, I can't even put in numbers.
And yes, I checked the numbers lock on my computer. Nothing works in the SS.
I'm trying, folks!

It sounds like one of those days to go btb and pull the covers over your head!! Tomorrow will be much better. Hear that Checkers? Your mamabean is frustrated with your numbers; time to get with the program!

p.s. Barb, I don't know if using Karo to prevent a drop is such a good idea when numbers are so high to begin with. Today it really backfired. You've got to wait for this bounce to clear and then rethink your strategy. It really is hard to figure out what will work.

Yay, got my SS up to date. I don't know what was wrong. My son got into it, while I was out and may have fixed it for me.

Normally I wouldn't even consider giving karo, when his number is so high, but he is so prone to dropping over a hundred points in just an hour, and I was sure he'd do it again today. Backfire ain't the word!! :o

Ann, thank you for offer to call. I can't be on phone and computer at the same time. *sigh. My cell doesn't get signal in this room either. (Aluminum siding)

Finally, my son, got in the SS, using my password, etc, to invite himself to be collabarator, so at least he can do things that I can't. He does spreadsheets at work, so I'm hoping he won't mess anything up. :roll:

Oh yeah, Checkers.....this wasn't a sudden drop. He came down thru the 400's today.

oh my barb - what a day for you. many hugs from us! Mannie says he will stop by on his way to the party with the ropes and help pull checks down. No need to be way up there buddy. Down you go!

Hooray for your son and the SS. What a pain it has to be for you. I think it's great that he can help. Teach him the ropes on our SS's - it would be great to have someone as a backup.

And what to say on the numbers - sometimes try as hard as we do the cat just does not cooperate. Today was just one of those days, so tomorrow you start again. Right checks? no more of those ugly numbers, OK?

I hurt my baby, and my heart is breaking in a million pieces.
IEarlier this evening, I picked him up, forgetting to brace his bottom, to protect his back. He let out a cry, and was walking stiffly after that, and could not get up on a kitchen chair. His back legs wouldn't push up.
An hour ago, I gave bupe.

I didn't call Dr Dave after last Sat's bout with back pain, because he's been so active and playful lately, I thought it was a one time thing.

I will call and make an appt with his doctor tomorrow. I'm so sad, that I did this to him.
Sorry to make this about me, I know this board is not for that, but........

He is feeling better already, and his numbers are going down. He didn't act sore today, he was jumping in the tub, as usual and running up the hallway

If anyone checks in here, who is giving pain meds....arthritis type, please leave word for me
Marje, I am going to ask Dave about Gabapentin; for people it's for nerve pain....it didn't work for my back.
I also will ask about the amantadine.
I need more meds to ask about. Checks can't take tramadol. He got too spacey.

It's all about your feelings for Chex...and that's a big part of the forum!

can't help with the med question...Binks has only ever had Tramadol, and it spaced him out too...

I like gabapentin; it's great for chronic pains like some acros have.... Oliver has headaches and seems much better with gabapentin... I have given him gaba BID with no problems.

Oliver is like a drunken sailor on Buprenex; he can't handle some of these pain meds, but gaba is good.
Tramadol was not that great for him and if he needed additional pain meds, you can't mix with tram, but you can with gaba.

That's why I chose to give gabapentin for both Shadoe and Oliver... if Shadoe had CP flare, i could still give her some bupe and not cause problems.

hugs to you barb - I'm with celi - it's really OK, so much of what goes on here is with us beans too - it all weaves together. Don't be sad, it will work out for checks - you'll see. none of us ever mean to hurt our babies. sometimes things just happen no matter how hard we try to avoid them. I can't help with the meds, never had to deal with any of this.

I am so glad to see his numbers going down. :-D

Thank you for hugs, Squeaky and Michelle. I really needed them. :-D I too am so happy numbers are coming down. :smile:

He is sleeping off the med, but alert when I poke. I wish he'd get off my bed and on to the lower couch, but I'm not lifting him again.
 
I agree with Ella -- using Karo when numbers are in the 400s isn't going to help. The HC did what it was supposed to do -- raise numbers. If numbers are dropping, I would try using a little bit of LC first. It's a better option when you're trying to slow things down. Another option is on days when you have a lower PS number, you can consider feeding a slightly higher carb food.

I also think you're trying to lead this dance. Checkers is leading -- all you can do is follow.
