2/6 Tiger +6 219 Pmps Hi

In looking at your spreadsheet, the token dose of 0.25 was just not enough. You've completed 3 cycles on the reduced dose of 1.5. Since you won't be able to monitor for a couple of hours, I would give 1 unit and feed Tiger as usual until you can safely monitor again. How do you feel about 1 unit?

If you think he will be safe, I guess I’m ok with it. He ate some kibble and about 1/2 tsp ff about an hour ago before we got up but he’s not coming to his bowl for regular breakfast, so not too normal.

He might be a little full from eating just an hour ago. What % carb was the FF? Which kibble does he eat? Just trying to get a sense of carb %.

Ok I was thing a half dose…but wasn’t sure. He’s just not acting himself. We did a trip to after hours vet to get libre changed, and then it didn’t work. Maybe he’s tired….thats what he’s acting like.

If you would feel more comfortable shooting 0.5 that's ok, there is no wrong answer here. :bighug:

Thank you so much for helping me. I’m just not sure but I have so little experience….not having a reading since last night really bothers me. Hubby is on the phone calling vet to see when they can replace libre.

can’t get libre until noon, 4 hours..

I’m sorry to hear this Deb. If the vet used vet bond glue to install the Libre, that can cause the Libre to fail.
Instead use the recommended skin tac before applying sensor and tegaderm to cover the sensor and protect it.
Some info on installing Libre:

Once you get the Libre, you'll feel a great sense of relief. I know that you (and your vet) couldn't get a blood prick from the ear. Has anyone mentioned getting a handheld reading from the paw? Here is a link to "How to check your cat's blood sugar from their paw
" from the Hometesting Links and Tips

I think you can give the full dose (or at least 1U as suggested by Angela) if he will eat and you can feed him a little every hour or two. The Libre does read lower in normal numbers and he was in the high 80s on 1.75U. This is the 4th cycle at 1.5U so the higher depot will be out of the picture in today's cycle.

Bring home the faulty libre. Report it to Abbott. Get a refund. Keep the box with sensor # of the new one in case of a problem of the new one.

Thanks Staci. Yes it wasn’t our regular vet and Matt took the skin tac but they also used the glue around it. And too much of it as I can see it. It was late night so our vet was closed. By the time we found out it wasn’t working was late and we weren’t going back to that place so went all night with no readings.

I know the glue can flood the sensor and kills it. :(

Thank you. Hubby already prepped a half dose, .75u so I think we will go ahead with that since he’s not wanting to eat right now. Tysm!

Thanks all of you. I don’t know what going on lately but I know I’m looking like an idiot with all the problems lately. It’s like a black cloud over our house and nothing is going smoothly lately.

we gave .75u but not sure he will eat anything. He is drinking lots of water tho so I’m sure his number is high if that is any indication.

It will get better, Deb. You’re both doing a wonderful job taking such good care of Tiger.
Ivy drinks a lot when her bg is high also.
:bighug::bighug:

It will get better. Keep trying at least once a day and hopefully you will eventually draw blood. :bighug: I used 25 gauge terumo needles rather than lancets and was very successful at drawing blood. Those needles are incredibly sharp.

I have hope but even our vet which we have check him weekly has only been able to get from the ear once or twice. They have to use vein. He starts to bleed but never enough. We just torture him trying…thanks for the encouragement…..

I read the article but really didn’t see anything about using needle. I’m guessing you prick the ear with the needle not draw blood as I was thinking earlier.
I misunderstood your question. You use the needle just like a lancet but tge needle makes it easier to get blood and the terumo ones are super sharp.

Make sure you warm the ear very well. That is key!
How’s the new Libre? Are you back to the 3?
Yes new libre3 is on but it’s loose around one edge. Hubby is gone to Walgreens to get the tegaderm and then back to vet to get edge glued down and more hair shaved to apply the tegaderm. What a day! Still looking for a shirt! I hope we can save this one for a few days.

Oh boy. I don’t know that they carry tegaderm, do they? I ordered from Amazon.
Amazon has pet clothing etc. I bought 12 month baby size tees at Kohl’s (any baby department, shop the clearance rack! Very cheap)
Ivy is about 13 lbs.
Good luck tonight!!

Yes he got it at Walgreens. All of them don’t have it tho.

he went to vet and had it put on but they didn’t think it should stick to the libre itself and put a small piece of paper in that spot. I don’t think that was a good idea, Abbott says it has to breathe! Can’t catch a break! And now Tiger is licking it more than before…

Vets offices aren’t trained in what to do sadly. They’re winging it :(
I’m sorry it’s been so tough for you guys.

I'm too new to offer anything constructive, however, I can empathize and offer moral support. :bighug:

Does it need to breathe? Think we can change it? Or cut out center?
Ivy’s has the tegaderm on top. Covers the sensor. No problem. People use sensor patches that cover their sensors all the time. So I don’t think it’s a problem to cover it. not sure what the vets office was thinking.

these are covers to protect the sensor worn by humans

Wow Deb, you had quite the day! I am sorry it was so stressful! I thought the Libre was foolproof but I should have known better. You can learn to do the testing, just give yourself time.
Just know this, you are certainly not an idiot!!! You are definitely not the only one with problems either, this is a support forum for a reason! We are all here for you, maybe not always with the answers but always for moral support. FD can feel overwhelming and isolating, but trust me, you are never alone!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Going to do 1 unit shot tonight, in case this sensor goes out overnight.

the tegaderm is already loose on one side….what next…

Thanks Ruth. Trouble is the little dickens figured out that he can pull it off, after all this time. I do appreciate all the moral support, just my head is spinning with all this stuff! It’s crazy how much has gone wrong lately!

Oh no, Deb. So he pulled it off??
Get a tee shirt immediately. Most cats do well with that. (Of course not my cat but she’s a real pain in the you know what about everything). Tiger sounds like a much more chill cat so he will probably do just fine.

Hi Deb, here are some things to keep in mind that can help with the Libre. Do read up at the Facebook group for many, many good tips.

Not the current one but the last one. We got a harness but he freaked with it. Now I have a t shirt I have to alter a bit, so will wok on that today whenever he sleeps. The tegaderm was pulled off during the night…thanks goodness it wasn’t stuck to the sensor!
Before this he never knew he could pull it off I guess. He’s slowed a bit today only trying to lick it once so far…..
