+4 86 Tabitha didn't seem to eat much between the last tests but she is eating now.

Based on today's #s and compared them to yesterday it's ok to leave for work right? Will leave food out.
 
If you haven't already left yet, I might add a little higher carb food to what you're leaving out as a safety measure. I suspect it will be just fine if you didn't leave higher carb food out. I'm just cautious with kitties I don't know well.
 
Tabitha is surfing along nicely, so I don't think you need to worry. Leave some food out if you can, but she's looking great to me.
 
When I got home Tabitha was a kitty pump in the bedspread. She hasn't done that in a while. Yesterday she was under the pillowson the bed. She's all by herself so I'm not sure what that is about. There is only the two cats in the house. They shouldn't be making any noise.

Her PMPS was 146; I did leave a little 6% food plus not sure when she last ate. She is eating now so will be getting ready for pm injection.
 
+2 121; she still has food in her plate so she has not eaten much since her injection. See what happens @ +4. Other than having 6% food during the day not sure why her #s are higher.

That is a very cute eyebrow! And her nose stripe is gorgeous. It might be the angle of the picture or something but to me it looks like you might be testing a bit too far into the ear. I test closer to the edge than that - if that red mark is from testing.

Beautiful numbers :D
 
Yeah it's kind of hard to tell, but it looks like you might be poking right on the vein that's along that edge. While it's OK to do that, it does hurt a lot more and you tend to get a LOT more blood than you really need.

Have you seen this picture of "the sweet spot"?

Next time, if my eyes are focusing, I will try it out. I'm giving her other ear a break and the left one doesn't seem to bleed as much yet. I'll try anything especially if it is less painful for her.
 
A lot of cats have one ear that bleeds better than the other...China's left ear bleeds...her right ear might as well be a turnip

Don't forget to use some Neosporin with pain relief ointment ....it can really help heal up those pokey spots

+6 55; I don't think she had any food between the test; freshened it up but so far not interested. She is up in the window but not near her plate; she's finally eating.

As far as testing spot in the cat room (sewing room) I have the ironing board out. We use that to test on and give injections. I can adjust the height and I have plenty of light. It's set up right near her window where she eats or observe the great outdoors. I have a routine - turn on the overhead light and move the lamp nearer; prepare the meter then get Tabitha.
 
What I'd suggest is have the "testing spot" ready pretty much at all times, and as many times a day as you can, just take her there, give her ears a quick rub, and then give her a yummy treat, or a nice brushing or petting, or anything she really enjoys. Most of us use freeze dried meats of some kind, or just buy a family pack of chicken when it's on sale, bake or boil one piece for kitty and use the rest for dinner that night. Cut it into small, bite size cute "treats", leave some in the refrigerator (a couple of days worth) and freeze the rest.

Very soon, they figure out that if they let you rub their ears, they're going to get something they want! Soon, they associate that "Testing spot" with the Yummy Treats, and stop paying any attention at all to what you're doing with their ears. China comes running and jumps up on her testing spot every time she hears me open the little box with the strips inside

Once they associate that spot with the "reward", they really don't care what you're doing with the as long as always get their "payoff"
 
I forgot to mention the last testing went better; it even bleed quickly. I have the dried treats and picked up a can of chicken for starts but she has not been interested. Your suggestion sounds like a good way to introduce the treats since she doesn't stick around after testing to offer it to her then
 
Yeah this is "conditioning"....the purpose is to teach them to associate being taken to a specific spot, have her ears fooled with a little, and getting rewarded....soon, they "get it"...."I go there, some strange lady rubs my ears, and I get YUMMY treats!.....I can handle this!!.....LOL

Of course then comes the fun part...when they race you to the "testing spot" and look up at you expectantly waiting for you to get over the ear fooling with so they can get straight to the food part!
