Anne is still in Phoenix and gets back tomorrow morning. I noticed yesterday that Zener was scratching at his throat a lot. I just checked his chest and throat and he is very sensitive just above and between his collar bones (do cats have collar bones?). He also started having brief periods (10 sec) of head tremors last night and this morning. He does not seem to be in any other distress and ate pretty well this morning. He did puke up about 1 teaspoon of liquid this morning around 4 am. I am thinking this is related to the extra grooming. Any ideas about what this could be? I will try to get him into the vet today. They open at 9. I've left a message.

I hope everyone is doing well. Thinking of Sid and Bailey (hope the poo patrol is successful in finding that lancet). Happy Caturday LL!

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302 throat scratching & head tremors?

Hi Liz, I hope that the vet will be able to figure out what is causing these problems and that Zener will be fine. Please keep us posted.

Hugs and positive thoughts,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. I knew that Kahtoola spikes are made in Flagstaff. I've had mine for 3 years and they are wonderful.

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302 throat scratching & head tremors?

Morning Liz - I have no suggestions, and no clue what that could be - sorry. Good I think to have Zener looked at. I hope all will be well. Sending good vetty vines!

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302 throat scratching & head tremors?

No ideas here. I hope you can get him to the vet this morning. I'm sending good vetty vines and am waiting for your update.

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302 throat scratching & head tremors?

Liz, so sorry to hear these symptoms of Zener. I hope you can get him in early to the Vet to get it checked out, as I know it's a worry. Sending some vines, and we'll be waiting to hear back from you. Hugs

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302;+1 296 throat scratching & head tremo

Reglan can lower seizure threshold in cats. It's actually contraindicated for cats with a seizure disorder. I would discuss this with your vet given that Zener has a neurological condition. It's known to cause tardive dyskinesia in humans which can cause abnormal movements. Personally, I'd stop the Reglan and ask for some other med, if needed.

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302;+1 296 throat scratching & head tremo

Hope the vet can find the problem--I was thinking of Zener's condition too..maybe ear & throat problem too?
Hope it is a simple solution--Hugs & Love from us!! Please post when you get back!

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302;+1 296 throat scratching & head tremo

Sienne: Thank you. I did give him the Reglan this morning but will not give him any more. The vet did want to wean him off of it and we've been trying to connect with her all week about that but she's been sick. I will send her an email with this information.

Ella, Michelle, Linda, Ann, and Roni: Thank you for visiting and all of your good wishes and vines. We really appreciate your support!

Hoping your vet visit goes well and that Zener is OK!

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302;+3.5 245 vet report: start ondansetro

The vet asked exactly when I had seen the head tremors and it was soon after the reglan dose last night and this morning. She said the peak effect of reglan is two hours after the dose. So while reglan side effects are rare, it seems that Zener may be exhibiting them. That's our special guy! So she said to start the ondansetron tonight, 1mg BID. His weight is down to 10 lbs. 13 oz. We could go up to 2 mg BID if needed. The vet did not see any reason for the scratching. His skin looked fine on his throat and elsewhere. She also checked his ears and they looked fine. I'll keep an eye on that. He wasn't scratching this afternoon. Except that as soon as I texted that to Anne, he scratched.  Crazy cat.

Does this seem like a good plan? Should I start the ondansetron tonight or wait until tomorrow?

Melissa and Rosalie: Thank you for your good wishes. They are much appreciated.

Liz

Not an answer here, just a big hug to you and Zener. Well done on getting him to the vet so quickly, Liz. If you solve the itchy scratchy mystery, let us know. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 2/4 Zener AMPS 302;+3.5 245;+11 237 vet report: stop reg

Woohoo! Flat yellow! Quite a relief to get that improvement after the ugly cycles of the recent past.

Randa: Thank you. Hugs to you too. He hasn't been scratching much at all today and hardly at all this afternoon so maybe that is reglan related too.
Celi: Thank you for your sympathy. It means a lot to me.

Zener is a proud member of the CPC tonight! He was really eating with gusto - I picked up his bowl a couple of times because I was worried about a scarf-and-barf! He looked at my like I was crazy. He is feeling better this evening. I didn't give him any ondansetron, maybe in the morning.

I'm glad that Zener is a member of the CPC -good eatin always makes for a happy day. I hope stopping the reglan solves the problem! Give Zener lots of scritches from me and Sid.

Melissa: I'm trying not to predict anything that Zener will do because he usually does the opposite. Crazy cat.
Lydia: I agree about the eating. We worry about that more than the BG. He is really feeling great tonight so maybe the reglan wasn't agreeing with him.

Tillie is eating great tonight too. It seems like their appys tend to be the same but I can't really tell who is leading and who is following.  Poo patrol had an easy night with Tillie (she used the lb) but we haven't checked Zener in a few days. Might have to step up our diligence tomorrow.

(((Liz)))) Still sending you many prayers of comfort during this difficult time. We're sorry you can't go to IL. Hope Anne will be home soon.

Glad Zener is feeling fine and doesn't need the ondansetron yet. If he acts nauseous, you can give it to him but sounds like he's good.

Nice to see him in blue today.

Hope you get some rest....big hugs!! And my baby girl is not butch.

so glad you figured out it was the reglan causing the little boy problems. who knew you had to be a detective to have a cat?!?

thanks for checking on the sweet punkin. i really appreciate it.

sounds like you've had too much on your plate, liz. i'll bet you'll be glad to have anne home tonight! :YMHUG:
