Good afternoon LL and happy Caturday,

The good news is Bailey passed the lancet!!!! dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat The poo patrol got lucky this morning, the lancet was in some normal-looking poo and there appears to have been no damage. We are pretty thrilled. :-D

The bad news is my dear sweet drooler, Blue, was diagnosed yesterday with Degenerative Myelopathy, a neurological/spinal disease with pretty much no treatment. We were discussing a knee surgery, optimizing his arthritis treatment, and then suddenly he just pretty much lost the use of his back legs. He has regained a little function with some high-dose steroid treatment, but we are needing to assist him to get outside and relieve himself. We are facing PTS - today is not the day but it may be soon. My heart is breaking - we have had Blue for 11 years and he is the best dog ever.

So I may not be around much depending on how things go. Thank you all for your support and kind thoughts during Lancet Watch 2012!

Melissa, I am so sorry to hear the news about your sweet dog. My heart breaks for you all. Sending out much white light and love and hoping for some miraculous energy to change things.

As for Ms. Bailey and the lancet's journey..oh my! It reminds me of when I wass a wee tot and I swallowed a nickel. The entire family, aunt, uncle, grandma and mother, father and sisters were on poop patrol until i passed it. Of course it didn't have any sharp edges. Glad it is resolved with no problems.

Re: 2/4 Bailey AMPS 249 good/bad news & xray pics

My mom's/little sisters german shepherd got this. He was on a high dose of metacamm but stayed engaged and liked being around the family. My sister many times a day would put a towel around his back end/abdomen and would be his legs for him to go to the bathroom. They knew it was time when he soiled himself and they couldn't manage his pain any longer. You can see in their eyes. She had a lot more quality time with him by being his legs. They actually make assist vests and things for owners now. I lost my best friend/drooler Nike at Christmas. She had vestibular disease her last week and had fought heart disease for 19 months. Its never long enough. I don't know why they can't live for fifty years. But that wouldn't be long enough for me either. Every day we have with them is a gift.
I am keeping you in my thoughts and sending lots of hugs your way.

Re: 2/4 Bailey AMPS 249, +2 240, +8.5 155

Thank you all so much for your good wishes, and for sharing your stories. Blue is doing OK for the moment, he is still a happy boy so it is not time yet... we will just continue to watch and wait and make sure he is comfortable. He does not seem to be in any pain, he is just frustrated and doesn't understand what is happening to him. He is a pretty big dog, almost 80 lbs, so it is a logistical challenge to get him up and out the door... it is working out well so far though.

Here is a pic of my sweet boy.
