~O) Morning Everyone! Well this morning started out badly....I noticed Sabrina threw up a hairball overnight(gave her a snack before bed...not her usual 3oz can), tested her @ 6:45am, 346, gave breakfast & threw it ALL back up....gave her another 1?oz of food, which she kept down & dosed her @ 7:15am(about 30 min late) So much for listening to the vet, not to free feed her!!!! She must have been so hungry she ate too fast. I don't have any pepcid @ home, what kind do I get, again? "Brainfart" ohmygod_smile
This morning I finally got to read everyone's comments.....and I agree with the board members, you are much more knowlegable than my vet, who's supposed to be educated! I'll up her dose to 1.5 tomorrow when I don't have to go anywhere for the day, & I can monitor her closely :-| Right now she's under my bed, feeeling none too happy & I have p.t. in a couple of hours. She finished the 2nd breakfast.....should I leave out apprx 1oz before I go out? Thanks, Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Went out, back again, fighting with our supposedly"new" internet provider :-x , tried to test Sabrina & she pulled away from me & ripped the edge of her ear  bcatrun_gif Then off to pain management doc, whereas he gave me an epidural for my back......all in all the day spiraled down the gutter! Mad kitty angry(2)_cat stalled internet & back hurts......Anyway, everyone have a good night

Re: 2/27 Sabrina AMPS 346 ?Difference of Opinion?

You want to get Pepsid AC. You can give 1/4 of a 10mg tablet twice a day. You may want to get a pill cutter. Those tablets are tiny!

I'm less concerned about the vet not understanding the SS than her suggestions about dose and feeding. (The SS takes a little getting used to!) Vets tend to ask people to allow their cats to run in higher numbers than what we encourage. In part, this is because the average person doesn't home test and the vets are understandably nervous about a cat becoming hypoglycemic. Since you're home testing and have an understanding about how to manage low numbers, you're not the average caregiver!

I agree that sticking with the 1.25u dose is courting insulin resistance. Likewise, you know your cat. If your feeding schedule is working for Sabrina, why change it? It's better to not feed twice a day since all of the food at once is likely to overwhelm her pancreas vs. allowing a more steady influence on her metabolism.

Thanks Sienne for the info  Another question, if I up her dose tomorrow, when should I do the curve to see what the adjusted dose is doing to her? Last time I think I goofed up & ran the curve 1 day into her new dose & recorded her bouncing for the day (ss 2/13), upped her dose on 2/12. cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Hi guys .. Sorry about the vet visit yesterday and your vet not totally on board with how you are treating Sabrina ... But you have to do what is best for her, just like you would for any two legged child, right? Fingers crossed when you up the dose it's just what she needs to come down .. have a great day guys!

Re: 2/27 Sabrina AMPS 346 ?Difference of Opinion?

the one thing ive noticed here is how little vets seem to know about fd or how little they think we are dedicated to our furbabies. it's sad really. at least your a critical thinker. your vet is nothing more than an infomation source, its your decision on how to handle your kitties fd. for me, it was an easy choice. and now otj.
go with your instinct and listen to your kitty. just by ht your leaps and bounds ahead of some peopel who have kittie's with fd.
keep up the good work and don't get discouraged.
