yay larry! 2nd time he has had a good ps for him. he did ok for his shot. plz let it stay that way! he was precious last night. more grooming. :) he was doing well, hes a big boy, and its hard to reach spots, but it was so sweet to see. hes trying so hard. he hadnt groomed himself much in a long time prior to dx. i thot it was his weight and age that stopped him. i am so happy for him, and proud of him. nice to see some fruits of our labor with a lower than usual ps. :)

Very often to will see improvements physically before you see it in the numbers. Grooming is one of the first signs. Occasionally you'll see me ask someone for a whole cat report or how the 5Ps are.

What I'm asking is are they eating well? are they alert and bright eyed? How does their coat look? And so forth. And the 5Ps are playing, peeing, pooping, purring and preening. Often I know with mine I can judge if its a bounce or just not enough insulin when I get higher numbers by the whole cat report and their 5Ps. Like today with my Autumn even if I hadn't caught her low I would know it was a bounce because she was happy and cuddly and handing out morning kisses. She's a tortie and full of tortietude when she's high from not enough insulin. If she had been grumpy and not wanting to snuggle and wouldn't purr for me and I tested and got that 321 I would have known I gave her a fur shot last night.

Now Larry may or may out give you those exact same clues but he'll have his own and you will eventually learn what his subtle signs are.

Now just for fun here's an interesting fact about kitties...While they will vocalize with others of their own species they only "meow" with humans. And cats use their tails and body to "talk"more than their voices. Pretty cool huh?

awww yea. larrys a quiet boy. the only times he has ever meowed at me in his life r if he sees me coming with food and wants it....1 tiny sharp meow! and if/when i take a bath sometimes hahaha idk why but he will look at me in the tub, so intensely! and then just let out a tiny tiny sharp meow! like...hi! i wish i knew what it means! hasnt done it lately :(
finally he has really cut down on the water too. thank God. until prob. yesterday he was still drinking a lot for a cat. yest. was less, and so far today :)
right now he is sleeping, more like a normal cat. i hv wntd to ask this question....do others of u hv fd cats who rest diff than the other kitties? like he is alert almost ALL the time. hes laying down but big wide eyes, rarely relaxed. this is daytime. i guess he sleeps at night like a person. its odd tho, he just doesnt sleep, or rest, the same, usually...so his high sugar must make him just altogether edgy.
anyway, but right now....after his shot, he is resting peacefully :) head down, eyes closed, bit of a curl...so precious. that tells me he feels bttr. he can rest. :) finally. he did it in the blue #s we had too, but thats been awhile now.

oh, and also...i do have a little orange girl who meows at larry, and baby. like a sharp upset meow...like back off. its the only time she ever meows. sometimes she gets vry upset and its evn higher pitched. its obvious shes saying....stay out of my space. thats pumpkin.

oh, and yes...i am hoping larry had a bounce on that rough day! (not to wish it on him but as an explanation) when he wouldnt let me give a shot, bit me etc. if that was the reason it would explain a lot. at least it would mean thats not going to be typical behavior for him. knock on wood, he has been bttr last 2 times.

i always think of that poor cat on YT. the only 1 not good for the pricks. that cat is so pitiful and stressed. if i was that person, i dont think my nerves could take it.

Yep I can tell where Autumn is at numbers wise by watching her sleep..if she's in a loose curl or stretched on her side she's great. If she's bunched up kinda like meatloaf with her head down and eyes open she's high and if she's flopped over like a dish rag...grab the meter she's too low.

Cassanova I haven't had long enough to be able to read yet by the way he's sleeping

yep. hes been yawning a lot too. poor baby. when hes vry high...400s he sleeps/slept in the closet...hidden away. so pitiful.
when he lays, idk how to explain, with eyes wide open, big pupils...hes usually in the 300s or so. then 200s and 100s he curls a little, closes his eyes...relaxes. bless his heart. <3

My siamese do that too when I'm in the tub. One will even stretch his paw at me and cry. I just think it's because they can't figure out why I'd take my fur off and get wet on purpose. Lol

With 4 siamese cats I've forgotten what a quiet cat is. Last night Amon Ra was making a racket so I go to check on him and he's happily walking around with his toy mouse in his mouth announcing to everyone he'd killed it. :lol:

yep they all react diff. to the bath, but all r amused. larry seems shocked but happy. he does the meow and then walks ovr and puts his little face right up to mine. sometimes gives a little kiss on my nose. Baby, my part meezy...is my only talker. kinda sad, as she gets older, shes gotten t lot quieter :( but she almost always greets me when i walk in a room. she likes to lick bathwater off me, and if i pet her, then she licks it off her fur. whew. more later.
wow 4 meezies would be noisy! i had a full meez as a kid. he sounded like a baby crying, he would howl a lot.

At times it's deafening but the talking is what I love about meezers since I'm home alone a lot in the summer because my husband's job sends him out of town during the week for several months at a time so they give me someone to talk to. Lol

The funny part is that Cassanova is more vocal than all 4 meezers put together and he's nowhere close to being a meezer just a big Classic Red American Shorthair Tabby. But he'll talk your leg off.

Glad to see a little bit better number for Larry and to hear he's been doing a little bit better with the shots. Fingers crossed as the numbers come down he'll get even easier.

thats cute mel. idk why my blue eyed girl is so much quieter? sad the more i think of it. 10 yrs ago, she would carry on as long as i would. i would sit and just ask questions, and to every1 she said Mmmyea" thats how her meow sounds. i say it to her sometimes. mmmyea.

and ty holly! :) hope and pray larry does well. my only qualm is the 1.5 is hard to measure. some days we end up with a skinny or fat. so hard to be precise without the seesaw ability i used on N.

I can usually tell when Mikey is running high because he'll be camped out under my bed. Luckily, he usually comes out when I call him (I think that must be part of his Maine Coon traits, coming when I call), but I think their aggression and sleeping with one eye open is probably from them not feeling well and trying to protect themselves.

Mikey must think inanimate objects are humans because the only time he meows, it's at walls, fences, his mice, the couch or a chair...never at me. ohmygod_smile I'll be sitting in the house and hear him in the backyard meowing away and I'll look outside and there is Michelangelo, having a deeply philosophical conversation with a blade of grass. Henry only meows when he wants treats or food and thinks I'm holding out on him.

Cassanova reminds me of my previous cat, the big (22 pounds was his ideal weight!), orinch Patrick. He was quite a talker and would talk at anything and everyone, including my other cat I had at the time (Little Kat who never topped more than 5 pounds her whole life). He would have full-on conversations with her sometimes where they'd just meow back and forth at each other. I swear he knew English and had very specific sounds he would make that sounded like human words that he would use in appropriate context: "No!" "Hi-hi!" He would also do the "Mmmyeah" and his favorite, "Nom-nom." :lol: I miss his talking. :cry:

And I just wanted to tell you: Don't get discouraged if Larry suddenly goes higher tonight and/or tomorrow for a bit. Last time he hit yellow, he bounced, so he might do so again. Don't worry, though. They'll usually start to bounce less and less and for shorter periods of time. It just takes patience when you have to wait for it to clear. :YMHUG:

KP if u believed in ghosts....mikey would make u wonder whos there, huh? i wish i did, honestly. ppl who see/here signs and things of their loved ones GA, i envy actually. i always ask my animals if they remember so and so. i dnt hv any1 else to ask. sometimes i ask if they evr see the person or pet so far they have never told me. :) :(
i halfway believe animals may be reincarnated as other animals...and maybe our GA pets come bk to us as new pets. i swear larry is my silver male tabby from childhood, muffy. he was HUGE. we would say we thot he was part bobcat or mtn. lion. bak in the day, ppl didnt neuter so he was all muscle. nvr weighed him that i recall, but i bet he was 20 lbs of muscle, and abt larrys size in height, length and all. he was the most gentle, wonderful creature. one day he vanished. :( he was mostly outdoors. he just came to us, and then vanished one day. life was vry diff bk then. anyway...i need a nap. zzz

I always ask Michelangelo who he's talking to. :lol: He reminds me quite a bit of my Patrick, but he's also entirely unique. I like to think that Patrick chose him for me because I swore after Patrick and Little Kat that I was never getting another cat again because I couldn't bare the thought of losing them. Maybe Mikey is talking to Patrick and telling him he's looking out for me now. :-D

Henry, on the other hand, my best friend swears that he's a re-incarnation of her kitten (died at 8 months old of one of those horrible kitten illnesses; can't remember which). Henry loves her to death and whenever she comes over, he is all on top of her, happy that his best friend has come to visit him. :lol: Then again, he loves everyone to death, including my neighbors. :roll:

awww 1 of my cats kinda reminds me of my grandfather :-D the greatest of compliments, but its prob. bc i miss him so mch, i jst wna see it. dont wna get too deep here. ;)
 
larry was hungry tonight. i thot everything would be fine. then he started the jumping around. made me nervous. trying to keep him calm and on the table. afraid i could stick the needle in his eye or something. finally, i got the needle in and pressed. i think he got the shot. not positive. forgot the sniff test.
feeling sad/stressed/discouraged :(
hope tomorrow is bttr. maybe bc his number was higher again tonight? i need a real hug, and theres not 1 available :(
 
Aw! Here's a virtual hug at least! :YMHUG: Don't be so hard on yourself; you still don't know for sure if it was a fur shot. Besides, I still give Mikey fur shots about once a week. Welcome to the club! :lol:
 
Oh honey I know this is frustrating right now but go look at some of our spreadsheets, Autumn's is a great example....they all bounce in the beginning, heck Autumn still bounces and this coming March 28 th I'll have been dancing with her for 2 years!

All you can do is grit your teeth and ride them out.

its him running from the shot. im not in good enuf shape to deal with it. i can barely handle him at his best. i dont undrstnd why he does this. theres no1 to hold him, and i dont want to stick the needle in an eye or anything. i need to know what to do whn he panics and wont let me give his shot.
 
Let him go until he calms down. If he's just crazy cause he's hungry let him eat first. As long as you get the test before he eats, you can wait until he's finished his meal to shoot.

There is also a trick where you take the old fashioned clothes pins and make a clothes pin mohawk down his scruff to simulate the way a momma cat carries her kittens. Kinda a kitty off button..hang on I'll see if I can find the link for you.

well if i do that we will be 30 mins later starting plus without food he will nvr be still. ok, ty for the link...sounds good.
this morning i cant evn get blood again. idk whats going on.

i didnt sleep last night and larry is so hungry and wild this am. must be really high. i cant evn get blood so far and so exhausted.
 
It works on my two ferals to trim their claws :-D

To test grab a big towel wrap him up like a burritowith just his head showing. Squeeze his now towel wrapped body between your hip and the arm of a chair or couch. Grab ear and poke.

Or what I did with Cassanova in the beginning was toss him in a gym bag and zip it up with just his head sticking out.

crap i must have done something wrong? i wonder how u get placement right. i tried it on my worst cat now and she tried to bite after i put on the 2nd 1.
 
i know. this cat is licking and biting at them some. shes also laying down relaxed tho, and walking around some. she cant figure it out.
larrys so big he doesnt have a lot of neck scruff. not sure if this would work or hurt.
