I am officially a fan of the rescue remedy. We've used it our past two vet visits, and I think it has made a real difference in warding off sugar dumps!!

Willie continues to do great. Lots of btb snuggles this morning, and he's currently parked with his fish directly in front of the heat dish, basking in the orange glow.

Two other tidbits from the vet yesterday that I forgot to share, but were good/fun...

First, I handed the cardio vet the update of our spreadsheet that included the numbers since our last visit to the clinic. He was impressed I had brought a copy, and then he looked at it. and actually READ it... comments and all!! AND? I got a "wow, you are doing a terrific job of keeping him regulated!"

!!!!!!!!!

When we turned to the issue of needing a regular vet, I explained that the former vet didn't approve of my methods of keeping Willie regulated, to which he responded, "Well, i'm no diabetes specialist, but if what you're doing is working this well??? KEEP DOING IT!!"

!!!!!!!!!

Finally. A little validation.

Then, when it was time for Willie to go back for his echo, the vet said that if it would make Willie more comfortable, he'd take him back in the carrier. As I busted out laughing, he opened the door.... and Willie just walked right into it, turned around, laid down, and was quiet as can be.  I don't know what kind of cat whisperer voodoo magic the cardiologist had going on, I just know that I want it!!!

Today is tennis and maybe a bit of grocery shopping. Willie was mumbling something about sleds??

Hope everyone has a great day in store... We hope all our friends in snowy places are careful out on the roads today!!

Re: 2/26 Willie AMPS 121, +3~96

Happy Caturday to you both, Christie & Willie.
I hope you both have a fabulous day full of rest & fun ;-)

Re: 2/26 Willie AMPS 121, +3~96

Willie thinks if he's good the vet wont do ANYTHING TO HIM~!! Alas, untrue
Glad to hear he's well & that you got kudos from that vet--It really means something to us!! Right?
Our vet made me an honorary vet of FD cats--They are rocked by the board's knowledge--To them-150 is regulated, to us, why is my cat so high
But it is always good to have a vet that approves--Have a beautiful Caturday--Hugs!

Re: 2/26 Willie AMPS 121, +3~96, +5~49, +6.25~46, +6.75~50

LOL

Hadn't thought of THAT, Roni!!!

About to head out for the afternoon. I think Willie will likely surf this like a good boy, but going to leave out some 7 or 8% just in case.

My god, the bonito flakes are a hit. I say bonitos, and think "kittie doritos" in my head. He cuddles the container while we test. I just have to remember to give them to him before hitting the spreadsheet! LOL

grr. +7~44. may put some gravy on that.

First: WIllie...what are you doing at 36 at +7.25???? Looks like someone gets a dosecrease!! And looks like mamabean didn't get out for tennis either
Beautiful cycles yesterday!

is at peace on this now. Glad the RR worked....I've used it a very long time and am a believer. It actually sounds like Willie had fun yesterday!

Hey, Wee Willie! Up a little,or are you just trying to keep mom home?

It's always a joy to hear of a vet that supports good FD care.

Re: 2/26 Willie AMPS 121, +6.75~50, +7~44, +7.25~36, +9~69

I"ve been wondering if/when we'd be in for a dosecrease. Not that I'm not perfectly happy at 1.5 with numbers like these. But dosecrease tonight it is!!

I did end up going to tennis, AFTER he ate a bowl of 7% laced with gravy AND a bowl of HC. My tennis skills were a mess at first because I just couldn't focus... too worried about Willie. But I have to start taking care of myself too, and balancing my needs with Willie's. I tend to be a hermit anyway, and I know I have been using Willie's health as a reason to not get out and do things. So, to tennis I went... though I did come home right afterwards, after grabbing a smoothie and ready-made salad to go at the gym.

Willie's been sleepy today, but I have remember... he IS somewhere around 15, and that is what cats do during the day!

Re: 2/26 Willie PMPS 73 dosecrease!

Wow, what a day for Willie and good for you in getting out to play tennis. Good luck on the dosecrease. I like Willie's cardiologist. So the Rescue Remedy is good stuff - I think they also have it for humans.

Re: 2/26 Willie PMPS 73, +1.25~65, +2~109

Christie --

Please read this post on how to handle low numbers.

I'm a little concerned that you didn't get any tests in until almost 2 hours after that 36. You'll note from the linked post, we encourage you to test every 15 - 20 min. until you see numbers coming up and then every 30 min. Even with the amount of HC that you fed, there's always the chance that numbers may wobble up and down or that you may have not been around to further intervene if numbers kept going down. I realize that this is only the 2nd time you've had to deal with numbers this low. If you look back on your SS, you were testing every 15 min. The goal here is to keep Willie safe. In the future, please monitor a bit more aggressively so you're sure that Willie's numbers don't tank.

Hi guys! What a nice cycle for Willie tonight - all that green and a dosecrese on top of it all.

Ni NI!

I can't argue with taking care of yourself, BUT next time tennis needs to wait until AFTER you see Willie's number rising. Eating is good, but hang out long enough to test and be sure the number bumped up enough to stay up while you're gone. Sure, his liver would probably take care of him, but do you want to trust that?

Re: 2/26 Willie PMPS 73, +1.25~65, +2~109, +4~106, +5~99

ditto to what libby said aaaaaaand...
if you get up for any reason during the night, grab a test. willie does not appear to have a reproducible nadir at this point.
who knows if he'll bounce or go lower than 99 with 7 hours left in the cycle.
