Yesterday's Condo

Good morning all,

Sami is off to another great start, but I am wondering if the little stinker was eating within the 1 hour before her test this morning. There was a lot of left over food from their snack last night. Not sure why, but I am glad I wasn't woken up early this morning. Plenty of food for any hungry kitties at 4:30 am.

Anyway, her numbers have been looking good either way.

After yesterday's post about wanting to switch completely to Wellness I did some reading and found that meat by-products have been given a bad rap and are not bad for our kitties. I probably won't worry too much about converting from Fancy Feast since all the kitties like it. The articles did mention that meat by-product shouldn't be the first ingredient but there isn't anything wrong with them being included in the food. I will probably still try to get them use to eating the Wellness, but I won't force it on them. Right now only one of my kitties will even taste it. There are a few flavors of Fancy Feast that none of them like, but I have been keeping track of which ones everyone likes so I just won't buy the ones that no one likes.

Looks like there's more folks than me looking into different fudz. I am looking for J&B's food chart to see what else is out there to offer Spot. Right now he's getting the By Nature organics, which he likes, but I was wondering if there is anything else out there, just to switch it up a bit.

I personally did not like the looks of FF, and I was glad I had to switch (cuz of Luna's reactions)

I did like the EVO thou, it looked so delicious I could spread it on a craker :lol:

I stick with Merrick and FF only because I am worried by the high fat of some of the other brands. I am not a nutritionist by any means, but the composition of a mouse body is about equally fat and protein from what I've read and I try to choose foods that stick close to that.

I should disclose that I am not unbiased here, because I used to feed my dogs EVO--a great looking (and apparently tasting) food--but the fat proved too high and my beloved girl died very suddenly from what we think was a severe attack of pancreatitis, which we did not even know she had. In reading, it seemed that foods very high in protein or fat can trigger that.

It's all so complex, I decided to stick close to the mouse profile! (And my remaining dog gets dehydrated raw and a 2-ingredient food from California Natural.) But, yes, I do worry about the byproducts!

OH, and happy Day 10! That's wonderful. When you get to the falls, send us back some info on condos there!!

What an amazing journey so far. Incredible how much we learn.

Talking about the food, EVO does smell amazing. I was shocked when
I opened it. It looks and smells like an amazing pate.
I wanted to get Max off of the FF and to try the EVO but I was told that
it is very high in fat and probably not a good idea for Mr 18.5 pound Max. :-D

Looking good, Sami.

Lots of us are looking into food alternatives, it seems. I tried Taste of the Wild and Tess's numbers spiked, although ingredients looked good and the simple calculation had it at 4.5. Too bad, she really liked it. :sad:

Deb, you said you were feed By Nature Organics, do you know what the numbers are for those? What varieties? and how about their Goldleaf Selects? It seems nothing is perfect.
