Good Morning LL! I have been offline since Thursday. I had my vet appointment on Saturday to discuss getting the blood tests done for the arocat and iaa. Did not go very well. She is insisting that the samples must be shipped overnight at a cost of $50-$75.00 for the shipping. "Blood must be shipped overnight" I called the school in MI where the test are done and did not get very far there either, as the woman was very rude and I could tell did not want to take time in answering any questions. My vet said that Mary grace's 6 month blood work up is due next month so since I am on a very limited budget that that is where I should put my money at this point. Got the whole song in dance that it is very unlikely that Mary has any of those high dose conditions, only 1 out of every 10,000 cats do according to her. No matter what I tried to say about cats on this board and what other research suggests, she wasn't listening. In fact I really think she was smirking. Nonetheless, it was just a consultation appointment so Mary Grace was not with me ($49.00) and I showed her my spread sheets and she suggested that we may want to give her 3 shots a day of Lantus. I couldn't believe she would even suggest that. I just said that would never work with my work schedule and let that drop. But give a third shot just as her nadir is hitting? OMG! And it was toward the end of the appointment after she had been looking at the ss for awhile that she asked, now how many times are you testing? So I don't know how she was interpreting the ss to ask such a question. I then showed her how to read the ss. Frustrating!!!! I ended up making her appointment for 2 weeks from last Saturday for her lab work. Going to try and call MI school again and get more clarification on shipping because I really want those tests done. Oh and the vet said that any other endocrinology issues Mary may have (arocat, iaa) will be seen on the lab work. confused_cat :?
But Sunday brought the best numbers Mary has had so far!!! :-D She has 176 at PMPS and 156 at 2.5 and then 100 at +5, and 125 +6 :-D :-D
Very happy that she is surfing more of the blues.

Hi guys .. oh wow, I'm so sorry you had such a frustrating experience with your vet .. and a bad experience with the school as well .. what's it to her if you want to spend your money getting these tests done on your kitty? You're paying (or would be) her for a service she can do for you .. she shouldn't question it unless it was endangering your cat .. sorry, but that is just how I look at it! I hope things turn around for you .. but yay on mary graces best numbers yet!

Zomg what a frustrating experience with the vet. Can you imagine where you would be if you hadn't found this place and gotten a solid understanding of FD? At least you had your sense about you, even if the vet didn't. So glad MaryGrace has such great numbers!! Hope she keeps it up!

how incredibly annoying! and frustrating!

she is looking pretty good - spending all of her nights in blue is good.

i just pulled out my paperwork on punkin's tests. first one was done in 6/2011 at our original vet.

blood collection fee $11
MSU Insulin Like Growth Factor-1 $61.25
MSU Insulin antibody $1875
postage overnight $75

Recheck at new vet was 4/2012

Insulin Like Growth Factor-1 $49.00
Shipping Handling Fees $15.00

He had a senior screen with the second test so I assume the blood draw was included in that price.

Not sure how to help you for that, other than you could call a second vet for another opinion and just ask how much they would charge for a blood draw to be sent to MSU. Even as I suggest it I'm thinking that any new vet would want to do an exam before they agreed to do it. *sigh* i think if you want the test the vet should oblige you without arguing!

trying to type with a kitten rubbing all over me! argh. i think i've retyped this twice! they are so much help!
