PMPS last night were 201 and 189 on recheck. I went with the 189 trying not to psych myself out. She started to come down very early in the cycle. +3 was her lowest at 136 but she shot up to 170 at +4? Very weird. This morning we are at 243. Off to the vet at 9:45 - this is not a normal number for Kazi.

She has been higher than normal for about 2 weeks now; but swinging from high for her in the 160s to normal in the low 100s so I bought new lantus and a timed feeder. I was content to keep at it with those numbers...but a 243 suggests something up.

Trying a new vet. Made the appointment but the vet I wanted to see if not working today so I am waiting to hear back from him (he is a friend of a friend) if he would reccommend her or not.

Good morning guys .. sorry that kazi's numbers are all out of whack .. I hope the new vet can figure out what's going on .. have a great weekend!

Re: 2/25 Kazi AMPS:243 MADE VET APPT

Between you and the vet, I hope you get this figured out. By any chance, did you re-test the AMPS number? Could it have been a meter glitch?

Good morning!

I hope the new vet works out, and that between you, you can figure out what's up with Kazi. I hope it's nothing big.

Re: 2/25 Kazi AMPS:243 MADE VET APPT

Well to start, I like this new vet. I think I will be switching to this clinic. Not 'perfect', but not so old school that she wouldn't look at my spreadsheet etc. She spent several minutes looking it over and was impressed with it. Kudos again to whomever set that up. :)

She mentioned switching to a u40 insulin; she thought with Kazi being on such a small dose it would make things easier to be accurate. She also mentioned showing me how to dilute my lantus with each injection if I wanted to stay with that. Thoughts on that?

We did bloodwork - it all came back perfectly normal. Since Kazi is bright, active and eating well it could be a bounce. It could also be an infection that just isn't showing up as an obvious rise in white blood count etc. BG was 284 - but that is stress talking im sure.

She wanted to do a Covenia shot - was really surprised to hear I was nervous about it. Said they have had no issues and great luck with it- currently have a kitty who was near death and after other ABS the covenia turned it around. I was nervous about it after reading the general consensus on it here and we came home with amoxicillan instead.

Kazi is happy to be home, has had a snack and is currently having a bath. Perhaps the vet visit wasn't necessarily warranted; but with the weekend coming and past experiences I feel better having brought her in. I am off to work...1.5hrs late and happy that I work for Three Dog Bakery where they understand my kitty comes first. ;-)

eeks - Lantus is NOT to be diluted. Doing so may change the way it works!

Please read the stickies on Lantus thoroughly.

Re: 2/25 Kazi AMPS:243 MADE VET APPT

Kind of what I thought about the diluting - wasn't sure if it was never dilute the entire pen or never dilute period.

Re: 2/25 Kazi AMPS:243 MADE VET APPT

Good input from BJ. Never dilute Lantus in the pen, vial, or syringe.

The following is from the manufacturer's website:
Sanofi Aventis said:
Do not dilute or mix LANTUS with any other insulin or solution. If LANTUS is diluted or mixed, the solution may become cloudy, and the pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic profile (e.g., onset of action, time to peak effect) of LANTUS and the mixed insulin may be altered in an unpredictable manner.

Re: 2/25 Kazi AMPS:243 PMPS:324

Well a pink is so not what I was hoping for. Cannot remember the last time we were anywhere near this high. Kazi doesn't seem to be feeling well - wasn't interested in dinner and is just looking like she doesn't feel great. I did get her to eat some and will try again in an hour or so..I know when her BG was higher she didn't have a great appetite. So hoping that her being so much higher just has her feeling kind of punkish - she ate very well for me this morning.

She ate most of the rest of the 1/2 can from dinner for me. +1.5 is 248 so heading in the right direction. Has not had her PM antibiotic yet, going to do that before bed.
