We’ve been giving Bella 0.5 units now for 2 weeks, and we did our first curve on the Tuesday that just passed and her numbers were great.

But since then she’s been more in the 200s and today for some reason 368 +3 after her AMPS. I’ve been struggling to give her the insulin (my husband is the pro) I get nervous, and lack the confidence. I’ve only done it 3 times and 2 out of the 3 she flinched so hard the needle flew out. One time I think it was too cold and the other I didn’t inject into the fat. I don’t think this morning was a fur shot because I felt her fur after and it wasn’t wet but her food was 3% carbs so 368 seems high and it’s high for her.

Should I keep doing the 0.5 for a few more days to see how she does? I’m at work all week and cannot do another curve until next weekend. And I feel so bad for her ears, it’s like I want to test her often but her poor ears are bruised :(

Just wanted to update - she’s slowly coming down. I just checked and it’s 302 +6 hrs AMPS, it’s her snack time and I’ll give her a 0% carb treat. I just don’t understand why she was on the high 300s she hasn’t been that high yet. Just feeling down about it, at one point we were doing so good.

She’s just bouncing a bit but she’s been at this dose long enough to see it’s not getting her into the 90-149 range for her nadir very much at all. I’d suggest increasing her dose to 0.75u bid. You can either start it tonight or in the morning.

One note….with the shot, you are not shooting into the fat. You are shooting subcutaneous so right under the skin. You might want to read these Testing and Shooting Tips. If she’s flinching, you might be shooting more into muscle.

Okay I will raise her up to 0.75 tonight. I’ll do that all week and then next Sunday I can do another curve since I’m usually home.

Giving her insulin for some reason makes me nervous (even though I’m diabetic and have been for 18 years). When my husband does it she doesn't even notice but when I do it she does. I will look at what you sent. Thanks for getting back to me. I will keep you guys posted.

You’re welcome.
Could you please fix the subject line now that your question is answered? You can remove the “?” Prefix and just change the title to the normal one. Thank you.

yes I will. I was wondering besides giving her the insulin in her scruff area by the shoulder blades, can it be given anywhere else?
