Hi everyone! Someone on FDMB contacted DCIN to donate and buy me a ketone meter and 10 strips. Whomever did that - I forever grateful to you. Thank you so much :-D

Sid is doing better today. I got up at 3:30 and he was 555. So I gave the insulin and 1/8 cup food, which he ate. I left food out for the +1.5 and +2 and he had eaten that too. Then at 2.5 I gave him a little more food and he ate that.

Good suggestions about the FF. He actually hates it because I've tried to sprinkle it on his food and he won't touch it. I can mix it with water and put down his tube. I should have been doing that all along but the metronidazole helped the diarrhea so much and it just came back a day or so ago.

@Deb I know what you mean. It never gets any easier.

I hope everyone has a good day and I really appreciate all the caring thoughts for Sid and me. I have been trying to get more sleep and I think I did last night. You are all the kindest beans around.

Yay for eating. Keep eating all your food up, Sid. You need extra food right now while you heal.
Sending Healing White Light and Get All Better Soon Vines to Sid. Hugs to you, Lydia.

I am glad that Sid is doing better today! Hopefully Sid is on is way to a full recovery from the pneumonia.

Keeping you and Sid in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks for the update, Lydia. I'm happy to hear that Sid is feeling better and eating on his own, and that you are getting some sleep! It sounds like things are moving in a positive direction, I hope that continues. Have a good day...I'll check in later.

I was able to get Sid a nebulizer at a medical supply company. I rented it for one month for $35. I bought a bag of saline solution from the vet and that's what I put in the nebulizer. I put Sid in a cat carrier and covered it with a blanket and let the nebulizer run for 10 minutes. I think it worked really well. I hope it helps ease the pneumonia. He isn't coughing. just heavy breathing. I don't like giving him the lasix because if can take out too much fluid from his body and cause kidney problems. Of course I'm giving him SQ fluids too, but I'm still hoping to cut back on the lasix.

The vet started him on baytril 1x day and clavamox 1x/day. Sid has once again developed a bad case of diarrhea which the vet thinks is only aggravated by the clavamox. I think his appetite is a little better today. He's grooming himself and scratching on his scratcher. It is so cute to see him go to town on his scratch boards :-D He is also fighting about several things - he's definitely tired of being messed with but he is still very sweet to me too and purrs.

Renting the nebulizer was a great idea! I don't know how you manage to balance everything, meds, fluids, work, etc, but you are doing great. Hopefully the Baytril + Clavamox will do the trick....I hope the FF helps with the diarrhea. ABs can do a number on the GI tract, my kitties always tolerate it well but that's just luck!

This really made me smile! :-D Great whole cat report, definitely positive signs! Hope you rest well, Lydia. Vines for Sid, hugs for you....
