Yesterday's Condo

Good morning, Everyone!

Basil is in adventure mode this morning. It is snowing (what else is new) and he wants to go to different doors and windows and look out, I guess to see if it looks better from somewhere else. Maybe there's sunshine in the bathroom window. You never know. He seems fine, has a good appetite.

Yesterday's recap (since I did extra testing):
AMBG=98
AM+4=86
PMBG=94
PM+3.5=83
PM+8=???? (see below)

And we're back in the blue for our AMBG today with 118.

I did leave him with no food from +4 until +8 lats night. I got up at +8 (4amEST) and tested. It was a crazy mess! First, I got 84, but when I looked, the little window in the strip was not full. This almost always produces false-high results. By now, he was eating, so I went over and saw a little swipe of blood on his ear. The blood was a couple of minutes old, but still liquid, so I grabbed a test on it and got 122. Figured the blood must have been too dry. So, I let him finish eating and tested again and got 91. How's that for a mess?

Meanwhile, Basil remains very cute, although he is just not quite as cute at 4am as he is at other times! :lol:

Wishing wonderful numbers for all the sugar kitties of Lantus Land today.

Is anything cute at 4:00am, lol?

Glad to see Basil is a busy and active bee today.
Congrats on Day 6.
Hoping he settles back down to nice greens!!

OK now I'm getting excited!! 7 more days--Lydia, you are doing such a great job, I know the late nights are hard, but will soon pay off!!

Re: 2/23 Basil OTJ Trial Day 6 AMBG=118 +8=88

So, tested at AM+8. Got 88.

I know what you're thinking, but you're wrong. I can stop testing any time I want to.

But seriously, I'm hoping these peeks at different points during his cycles will be helpful, considering he is a high flying catman.

Happy Day 6, Basil! :)

I tend to agree with Randi that nothing is very cute at 4 a.m. Unless it's due to beer goggles. ;)

Re: 2/23 Basil OTJ Trial Day 6 AMBG=118 +8=88

Not only is nothing cute at 4 a.m., to have the meter mess with your mind at that hour adds insult to injury!!!

Basil, go give your mama bean a lick and a purr! She has earned it.

Just curious -- what brand of meter do you use? We use the Accu-check Aviva, which beeps when it has enough for a test, so I never paid attention to how full the strip was.

Re: 2/23 Basil OTJ Trial Day 6 AMBG=118 +8=88

Hi Kathy,
We use the Wavesense Presto, which also beeps when it is full. Except, since I am (oh, horrors, here come a confession) apt to trust nothing, I began looking at the little square which was supposed to be filled. I noted that sometimes when it beeped the square was not full.

There are two kinds of "not full," it seems. In the first kind, ther is a very uniform border around one or more edges. That seems to be a matter of the fill window not lining up perfectly with its frame.

In the other kind, part of the bottom of the window does not fill. Even, on occasion when there is a lot of extra blood hanging out on the end of the strip!

When we have noted a not-full window and retested, we have almost always gotten a lower number the second time--a couple of time by 50 points, usually much less of a difference. So, now (oh, another confession) I keep a small magnifier in the box with the testing equipment and I examine the window.

I really love the meter otherwise. It corrects for levels of iron in the blood and also for temperature. The strips are reasonable. I just wish that it would not beep if the window didn't fill. I keep meaning to call them since I hear they are very helpful on the phone.

I confess I keep a magnifying glass too! :-D But it's for syringes.

Thanks for clarifying that. I didn't know a meter COULD correct for temperature and iron, never even imagined those were issues.

50 points is a lot of points. If I get an unusual number, I think I'll check the strip! ;-)
