Hi, new here!!!

My sweet boy was diagnosed 2/7 and his BG was 569. After finding this forum (thank you)!!!! (This is also posted on the Lantus forum but I'm not getting a response and it's time sensitive). II bough an Accu-Chek Guide. On 2/11 I tested twice and his BG was 389 at 4am 8 hrs after insulin. And up to 399 at 4 pm in a fasted state. My Accu-Chek was faulty and I just got the new one mailed to me yesterday (2/20). He was at 124 last night 2 hours after insulin and eating. And this morning he woke me up and at 4 am and appears to be starving (he is eating far less of his new food). His BG is now 109. Do I give him moderate carb food? Still give him insulin? So confused....UPDATE. just tested again at 6:30 and it's down to 100. I leave for work at 8 and need help deciding if I should skip his insulin AND if I should give him some medium carb food. (P.S. he's really hungry)

8 PM- so almost 11 hours
OK.
Lantus can drop late on into the cycle sometimes, although the numbers at 4.30am and 6.30am are pretty much the same...
Since you don't have a lot of data for your kitty yet your initial plan to skip and leave some medium carb food seems pretty sound in the circumstances. It 'might' be that low carb food would do the trick. But the medium carb food would be the 'safer' option. And maybe check that he does eat some before you leave the house..?

Thank you! And I'll get my spreadsheet started so I can monitor better. Im so anxious about doing the wrong thing. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

BTW, those are really lovely numbers, in 'normal range' for a kitty... Most people would NOT shoot at those numbers, unless they had a lot of experience and a lot of data to back up the decision to shoot...
