Poor Shadoe, she does not know what's going on this morning but as usual, she is not complaining at all. She is meatloafing up on a chair, patiently waiting for food.

Every morn, she may get a couple chicken cubes while waiting for amps, then a treat after the test, followed by shots and breakfast. Today, she got the test, one shot, and then ignored. How horrible that must feel.

Meanwhile Booboo has decided to bark at me, man she has a mean set of powerful lungs for a scrawny 6lb stick cat. She meows, I say shut up. She meows, I say shut up. This conversation continues several times more, and she follows me around too. I had thought it was due to her self inflicted fast, but even after I uncovered her dry food as soon as I got up, she still yelled at me. I seriously think Shadoe complained to her, or she is seeing Shadoe pouting. Anyways, Shadoe is still pouting, and Booboo went off someplace else to be a crazy cat.

Shadoe's LB action was already done when we got up, and nothing more to be said there. No food, and no purrs.

I am off to the gym at about 10am (+4), and will get home in time to test around +6.5 or +7, then off to the vet for blood draw for IAA and IGF-1 tests. I am going to ask for their other regular blood tests, so I can compare to her last at the time of her p-itis attack in mid-Jan. We may as well suck out some extra blood while we are there and test for everything from chicken pox to moth balls.
I am taking a small container of one of her faves, SophCat flaked chicken and tuna dinner with us. I will feed her as soon as she comes back out from her blood draws.
I'll take a +2 and +4, but only to see how her numbers are going with less insulin and zero food.

Tonite, we will go back to 9.0uL and however much R the experts suggest we try today. That .25R did not even register on this stone kitty, so we need much more is my guess.

As jojo requested, below is the bulk of our exchanges on fb with regard to using R and what to expect.
I still don't have a clue about this R, but will stick with the .25u as suggested, starting up again tonite with Shadoe's pm shot.
During the week days, no R will be given at am, but will use the R with the pm shot provided the numbers are high enough to justify its use.

ok, did exactly what i expected to a tee. yes tomorrow give 0.25units. and yes test again hourly until fizzles. will do that a few times to make sure that shadoe does indeed have an early R nadir as what it looks like there.

is okay, gives us a plan. all ya want is the R to bring down number so that the L has an easier number to work with. see how it will work? first one insulin, then the other and gently lower numbers down cycle by cycle getting some nicer colors on SS.
of course there will be some rebounce back steps when we push down the number into range shadoe ... See Moreisn't used to, but R is so handy for squishing bounces and we will get that little furry body used to better numbers, just gonna take a little time. but there is a plan.
just a warning, don't get heavy handed with the R, do not need steep drops setting off their own rebounces, we are looking to reset normal range and that is a step by step plan, not force a great number that can only last for an hour, that won't reset the normal range, doing the way i'm saying allows more hours in range ya want which is what is needed to reset norm. get what i'm saying?

yes. Even though she is not a bouncer, it looks like the R, even that tiny bit caused her to go down quickly and so she did bounce up past her pmps by +3. Luckily Lantus kicked in and +4 went down again. I will not rush the R; instead, I will record what the .25u R does tomorrow morn, the a decision is possible for a plan that fits Shadoe.
Also, the test results are not in yet, and they will have to be factored or an in, I am guessing. No rush though; the plan is in progress.

i just don't know anymore; i am actually starting to feel discouraged. I honestly don't see the R doing a thing. Today, after .25u, her +1 is going up?
How can you give 9uL and .25uR at pmps of 391 and get a +1 of 418? I honestly don't get it.

Shadoe waited for a treat after her +2 test, but got none.
Then she went over to the open feeder, just to check if there was anything there.
Nope, all 5 sections completely empty.
She went back to her pout spot on the sofa, back towards me and watching the Olympics on TV.

Almost that time, food in hopefully under an hour or so for hungry Shadoe,
hope she's doing ok, seems to have started the morning without too much of a fuss...
lots and lots of luck for the tests today, will be watching for your updates!

I can't wait til you get these reports back in! I will caution you that my report was late because the IAA test was late. My vet's colleague actually called me to tell me the test was late after a call from MSU, without even knowing what the test was because my vet was gone for the day. I had to beg her to give me Leo's number, and she said well it's high but MSU is encouraging us to wait for the other test reading. I was like I WANT THE NUMBER! GIVE ME THE NUMBER NOW!! angry(2)_cat which she did, because she's been scared of me for a while now o:-) so I went into the weekend without an official dx, but knowing he was well over the positive 92 number. I don't think I would have survived til Monday. haha_smiley So um basically you might have to be up your vet's butt on Friday. :mrgreen:

Good luck at the vettybean, and please remember to tell Shadoe that I had nothing to do with her involuntary starvation plan. I don't want her to hate me. :-D

Alrighty we are back from the vets and Shadoe's trauma did not register in her numbers; I checked out of curiosity.
She was 279 at +7 (1pm) when we left for the vets and once I tricked her out from under the sofa with pure snacks, she was 293 at 145pm.
I took food to give her at the vets when they brought her back out from the blood draw, but the feline meatloaf wanted none of it; maybe the dogs in the waiting area were bothering her but I doubt it. She doesn't know a dog from a hole in the ground. I did bring the backup, pure snacks - some liver and some chicken. She did eat a bit of those.

When we got home, I opened a can of ff chicken & liver, mixed in some water, and Shadoe inhaled 3/4 of it. I need to start watching what she is eating; she is up to 5.7 kg, her heaviest! Geez, the cat that was weighed right after her was 1.9kg :oops:

They also drew blood to run the regular so-how's-she-doin' tests, FGP? I talked to the young vet after and confirmed that the blood drawn will be frozen and shipped directly to MSU lab, not the mailroom, and all the proper paperwork has been prepared to go with it. Yes, they are ready to have the draws at MSU in time for the tests on Wed and she will call me as soon as she gets the tests, which I told her are supposed to be available by Friday, so I am expecting to hear some news by the start of next week.
So we should have the results by the end of this month.

Now that it's all in motion, we wait.
Shadoe is happier now, eating like a good little oinker.
I am off to shop now, relieved that there is nothing to do but wait for results.

Geez, 5.7kg that's 12.56 lbs! What a rock!

LOL, I was wonder what the weight translation was but I was too lazy to calculate it. 12.5 isn't tooooo bad, unless she's a small cat. Well, it probably is kinda bad but compared to a lot of the cats here it isn't.

Now you hurry up and wait, I guess. At least you know that you've done what you can now, and when you get the results you'll be able to do more. ((((Gayle))))

My civvie was described by my vet as very petite (I think she stopped growing at an early age) and can curl up into the teeniest little ball is 9.5 lbs. 12.5 lbs can't be that big. Can it? in a deep voice..not compared to J.D.
So glad today is over. Like Randi said. We are all waiting here with you. :YMHUG:

Morris was 26 lbs. most of his life, went down to 17 on low carb, and is now skin and bones at 14....he must be "big boned". :o :o :o

Shadoe's weight, I have been marking it on her ss every time she is weighed at the vet, has been around 5.1-5.4 kg, or 11.24-11.9 lbs.
To see that she dropped from 5.4kg on 1/15/10 with the pancreatitis issue down to 5.1kg, then jumped back up and past it all to 5.7kg!
It's kind of a big weight gain for such a short time (about a month), right? I am soothing my conscience by telling myself she is very muscular and muscle weighs more than fat haha_smiley and I say the same thing about myself!
I am feeling very glad that the the tests are on their way and all that is left to do is wait. I am going to sleep soooo well tonite, I can hardly wait.

So, we are jumping right back up to 9.0u lantus tonite in about 30min, but what about the R? Should I try another .25 R tonite?
I will be at work tomorrow and all week, so any R will be given in the evenings.

According to jojo, that .25u R is plenty as it's the reason for her red this morning, at least that's what I got out of it. We need to get her used to surfing one floor down in the sunshine.

I have another question: do I count that half dose given this morning because of the vet and fast as a cycle, or do I need to do an extra shot to get to cycle 6?

Anyone? Shots time is in 30min.

We went ahead with 9.0u Lantus and also .25u R since she is in pink and we want some more yellows.

I am starting to think that Shadoe feels better after her shots; she was not purring much at all today, can't blame her, but when I said to her it's shot time, she actually went over to the shot spot and after her shots, she started to purr loudly.

I'll do the hourly testing again, to see what's happening with the R tonite.

Tomorrow morn will by cycle 6 at 9u, so I'll increase to 9.5u tomorrow nite, unless others think something different is proper.

It looks like we are crawling through yellow now, slowly but at least we are there.

Shadoe seems nice and relaxed, likely glad to be back home with food again.

Yay for yellow sunshine! It's a nice, respectable goal and one Shadoe's been able to reach since starting R.
 
Shadoe's holding onto the yellows pretty well so far which is much better than the old flat pinks.

She seems more relaxed now, less tense.

I call this progress.
 
It looks like she is on her way up now at +5 to 338, but that's OK.
We had a nice string of yellows and I think she just needs to get used to that level.

The last test, she half opened one eye then closed it. She is finding these frequent tests sooo boring that she sleeps through them. Nice.

I am really tired and Shadoe is just looking to comfy to wait and disturb her with another test in an hour when all we will be seeing is pink. She is looking more and more relaxed when sleeping as each day passes.

Tomorrow morning will be cycle 6 at 9uL; tomorrow nite, we will go with 9.5uL and .25uR and see how it goes.
