Good morning,

Still in the pink. I am wondering if bubbles in the syringe have anything to do with it. I cannot get them out when I draw the insulin.

Are they air bubbles? Have you tried flicking the syringe after you draw the dose? If they are air bubbles, the air is taking up space the insulin should be and your dose might not be what you think it is. Just a thought...

he should've cleared that bounce today. that fact that he's still high might suggest that with bubbles in the syringe, you're not getting an accurate dose.

are the bubbles coming from inside the pen? what i mean is, can you see bubbles in the pen and is that being withdrawn into the syringe?

when you have serious bubbles in the syringe, sometimes it helps to draw in more insulin than you need, then with your syringe just in the air, draw in some air too.

point the needle to the ceiling so that gravity is helping you, give some sharp flicks to the syringe to try to get the air to coalesce to the top of the syringe. liquid wants to stick together, so hopefully it will drop the insulin down towards the plunger and the air will rise to the top. then you can expel the air, hopefully, and move the insulin to fill up the syringe.

some syringes are simply worse than others about creating bubbles. so if you don't have air in your pen, it might be the syringes.

sometimes you really have to flick the needle hard to get the bubbles to the top - I had issues too and saw them but they would not pop to the top and really had to flick the needle. Try that........

I definitely believe that the syringe is causing THE bubble. It is usually one medium sized bubble that just won't leave, no matter how much a flick the syringe. It just moves to different spots in the syringe.

I do draw out a tiny bit more insulin than I need, and I do flick the syringe, but that darn bubble just won't leave. There is no air in the pen that I can see. NO bubbles in the pen at all. I think I would need to draw out a LOT more insulin to get rid of the bubble. Right now I draw out about 2.0u, and that already seems like a lot.

are these the new syringes you got? were the old syringes better? syringes definitely can make a difference. some brands are awful about bubbles.

are you pointing the needle to the ceiling before you flick?

one more thought - are you pressing the plunger in and holding it tightly as much as possible before you put the needle into the pen end? otherwise it can start with some air already in the syringe.

Hi Julie, yes, point the needle to the ceiling and also putting lots of pressure on the plunger when pushing it into the pen. I can try the same 1.50u dose one more time tonight, and then try the dosecrease tomorrow morning if he goes into the pinks and stays there overnight, and also do the dosecrease in the morning if just stays in the yellows overnight.

do you have any of your old brand of syringes you could try?

i'm not sure what else to suggest, because if it's the syringe, there's not much you can do about it. i don't know what makes some syringes so annoyingly bubble-prone. i used monojects for a while and if i remember correctly, i think they were bubble-prone. i went to the terumos quite a while ago and was so happy with them i used anything else.

I'm currently using the Relion syringes because I did not have to have a prescription from Walmart to buy 3 bags of them. I didn't care for the BD's as much because the marker lines on the syringe are really small.

Where can I buy the monoject in quanity without a prescription?

the monojects were the ones i had bubble-trouble with. i'm not recommending them. The Terumos were the ones i loved. i bought them from http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/terumo-thinpro-insulin-syringe_5891_112.htm. Many people like them and use them here, but a couple of people recently have said they didn't like the longer needle. i always pulled up a big hunk of punkin to tent and shoot, so it didn't bother me.

whether or not you need a prescription is dependent on your state laws, i believe, not where you're buying from.

if you buy from ADW (above) you might want to register first at http://www.mrrebates.com and get a rebate back on all of your purchases. it's worth it - at least i thought so.
