I noticed that she meows really loudly before using her litter box, and she always poops in the stairs (on a landing, carpeted of course) or in various spots around the house, after using the box. I wonder if it's painful. I gave her more kefir yesterday, I will try to do that for a few days and see if that improves.
Do your cats poop every day? Bella tends to go every 3rd day, sometimes every other day. She eats almost exclusively raw food, some canned when she gets low or if I forget to thaw a new jar of raw, but that's rare, so her stools are very dry and do not smell.

I've seen posts here that cats on raw food poop only every other day and that their poop can be drier than cats on wet food. Do you add some fibre to her food - like psyllium or pumpkin?

Here's the page from Tanya's website for chronic constipation in CKD cats but you could try some of those treatments like fibre and slippery elm bark.

Thank you, Bhooma. I have pumpkin she loves it, but I do not really see a difference when I use it. I can try again, though. I am not sure she is constipated, she always pooped every other day since she is on raw food, it's been several years, but the pooping everywhere is getting more frequent, and the "crying", too. That said, she talks a lot and can be very loud randomly, so maybe it's just her way to tell me what she's doing :)

My raw fed cats poop every two days. Going in places other than the litter box sounds like she’s trying to tell you something is wrong though.
Thank you, Elise. She's been doing that for a while, but it's always after going into the box. Sometimes she scoots. I added pumpkin and more water to her food, she probably needs fiber and she does not drink other than what i add to her food.
Maybe more hydration is needed? Can you try adding more water to her food?

For pumpkin, Kona LOVES these.. https://www.weruva.com/collections/pumpkin-patch-up

Also, maybe time to try a better quality probiotic? Maybe her microbiome is out of wack and needs some new good bacteria?
She loves pumpkin. I just opened a new can, she was very happy and thanks you :-) As for probiotic, I jgive her kefir, kefir grains when mine go crazy, and yogurt, so she has a lot, but I could go shopping.

Cecile, do you know if yogurt spikes BG? I read about you giving it to Bella, and Luciole loves it, but I've been hesitant to give it to her.

As far as frequency goes, when I raw fed, my cats had BMs every second day, on average. That's been touted as one of the selling points of raw feeding: less smelly litterbox, less kitty output ;-)

In addition to all the great advice above, do you have a low entry litter box? Cleo has two boxes. One she uses exclusively for #1 and the other is where she'll do her #2s
I love it! She has a low entry extra-large box :)
@Lara & Luciole (Lu) I did not notice that for Bella, but I did not test it specifically either. I have the impression that kefir tends to lower it, but again, I did not test it. I should, I bet she would love it.

Hi Cecile.
Fistuk poops every other day regularly. He pees outside the box in regular places and only when there's a reason. mainly when his boy is not clean properly for him :banghead:
I use psyllium husk twice a day regularly and I think it's really helping. He hasn't had constipation for a long time now:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I just wanted to add, my civvie K.C. is also on a raw diet and would normally poop every other day but after awhile it started to become obvious she was straining, crying out and pooping out of the box. The vet found she was a nervous over-groomer, that's the only explanation they could come up with!:oops::oops: The amount of fur in her stool was far beyond what they deemed normal, hence, the constipation. I give her freeze dried egg yolk to prevent hairballs, pumpkin and 1/4t of Miralax and all the above has stopped.

That's actually a possibility for Bella as well, she grooms a lot. Less than she used to, but still a lot! Do you know if egg yolks can be given fresh as well? She loves them hard boiled.

As far as I know, egg yolk can be given fresh. In fact, if you are into it, here's a formula for it: https://www.foodfurlife.com/blog--news/hairball-help-how-to-make-homemade-dried-powdered-egg-yolk#/ Marje @Marje and Gracie uses the dried egg yolk powder from Nature's Pharmacy, which I just ordered. For years I bought the powdered egg yolk from Food Fur Life but they no longer carry it.
Actually, you can give a small amount of raw egg yolk for immediate relief until you get some egg yolk powder. The one I use now is Nature’s Farmacy.
