hes been doing sooo much better.. acting way more himself.. i been sooo happy but i noticed maybe wasnt eating as much as would like although has been eating!! 😍 (Been on the Ondansetron every 8 or so.. 12 certainly wasnt enough.. put on a better schedule to ensure he gets it through out the 24 hrs period.. 6 am. 2 pm. 10 pm..) Gave him some Mirataz this AM.. (1) he hated it 😖 and (2) now kinda lethargic frm before.. he looks like not feeling too good. we never did get a good handle on his nausea i realize now.

what do i do????? 😱
im starting think now the whole past month he was nauseous a bit and had the stimulant on top of it.. but he still ate so it confused me. we never did get a handle on his nausea again.. thats why we went to the ER in the first place.. 🥺🥺🥺 i had so much thrown at me, i didnt see it.. and no oneee outside of here and the kidney board offered him Ondansetron to also take too……

i dont think im giving Mirataz unless absolutely necessary.. he was feeling better now he isnt. Might need higher mg of Ondansetron.. based off weight.. 6 mg sounds more right maybe? (13 lbs..) if we get a grip on the nausea, he theoretically wouldnt need the Mirataz so much?..

we getting a second opinion today. maybe will go well.

ALSO… his eye. 🫤 i noticed last night it seemed a little darker than the other.. and its not reflecting as much. have heard and read all the horror it could be.. i tried getting Opthamologist, booked out til March 4.. made it anyway.. asked Internist, just referred to Opthamology.. i hate it when they just refer you out, dont want to deal w it.. they checked his eyes too when were there. ugh. i was horrified i hadnt checked his pressure.. but did some this AM and his values good… i do not know. 🫠

numbers are all right.. we werent able to keep this dose properly, might have to go back up. and thats ok. ❤️‍🩹

PS. the capsules came.. how do you all get them in? these seem like they have to be pilled.. or put in a gigantic treat.. plz lmk. 🫠 i have a video to watch on how to get them to take it.. but i was surprised how big they seem.. (definitely for us.. but know its a way for him to get all his stuff… ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹..)

Just looking at prior post. Ondansetron can take 30-45 minutes to kick in. It can ve given as often as 6 hours. With Chai I gave 8 hours but the before bed rise was anywhere between 6-8 depending on how late I fed her the last snack. Once in her system a few days she was eating well but I did give it about a half hour before I fed her. It did cause constipation in Max. The diarrhea could be from the antibiotics as others mentioned. As Suzanne said stop the miralax for now and if constipation becomes an issue restart.
 
I used a pill shooter to get capsules in. Some people have luck with rubbing some butter on it so it slides on down. It should be similar to how you give larger pills if a pill treat works.

Increasing? You mean increasing to every 8 hours? If he’s not eating well on every 12 hours then I would do 4mg every 8 hours.

right! i try to consider that.. antibiotic was stopped 2-3 weeks ago i think.. could show up now?? (so far been ok, no more loose.. ❤️‍🩹) im trying to be on time. Miralax stopped yesterday. 🫶🏼💘

well we’ve been managing cuz the pills have very fortunately been very small, or halved.. we will try. haha. i will try. hes not one to take big pills.. 🫠🫶🏼
 
You can give ondansetron every 6 hours as well. I think 4 mg is a good dose. You can vase the dose on weight. Does he seem to eat about 30-45 minutes after he gets ondansetron? It did take a couple days to get my cats eating well after I adjusted to every 8 hours.

So.. i think its not necessarily the Mirataz. i think it just might not agree w him (?).. makes him lethargic and grumpy. 🤔 if thats all there is.. will use if need, will also give the Ondansetron a few days of consistent use to see how he doing, but what about cyproheptadine as an option for stimulant? know it needs to be used more (isnt 24 hr..) and not sure if a transdermal.. but hes been slow and a little off balance too (ataxia?.. idk 🥲) on the Murtaz..

Also moved vet appt.. so we go Monday instead.

will do this too! just started every 8 hrs i guess about yesterday.. maybe will give it 2-3 more days, then will up to 6 hrs if need? 🥲💘

hes 13 lbs. ☺️🥰💘 (used to be 15….. 😭)
 
You asked about cyproheptadine. That’s what I use. Just a sliver has worked. I gave Chai a quarter and she became quite vocal bI thought because she was just 8 she might need that much. Wrong. Just a sliver worked better. I put it in a gel el cap with ondansetron.

……. i just realized, trying to implement the Ondansetron 3 times a day.. etc.. i forgot his Cerenia this morning.

I forgot his Cerenia… Totally forgot……. my alarm didnt go off either because its weird.. i didnt set it right…

idk how this happened. remembering too many thing i guess. im appalled i forgot. the other important thing he needs. im sitting at my desk and see it in his pill case. i have yet to put it all together. i just hope he doesnt go off his food….. i cant believe i did that. 🤡 hes still eating so far.. Ondansetron was on time at least……. im embarrassed . idk how i could forget it.. then again, i guess i could ..

THIS could obviously be why hes grumpy. :( fortunately no vomiting… this is all too much.
 
Cyproheptadine was used way before mirataz existed bi used it from r Max”s sister 21 years ago. Mirtazapine made her hyper and vocal. Cyproheptadine worked better and she was not vocal. Max did very well too. Chai was good once I got the right dose. It is the antidote should mirtazapine cause serotonin syndrome. Mirataz much less likely to cause serotonin syndrome if ever so gentler than mirtazapine.
