Several days ago, Ripley waited until I was checking her LB status to use it in my presence; she did the same thing this morning! :-D  :-D
(Neg. ketones, and a perfect prezzie!!)

Gave her extra freeze-dried shrimp for that one!

Oh, who am I kidding: I always give her extra treats, just for being my special girl (awwwwww).

A week from today I'm going on a several-day-long trip, my first time away from home since Riplestiltskin's FD diagnosis in November. My DH will be in charge ( nailbite_smile ). So today we're going over the 'basics' and trying to figure out if we need to adjust her shot time to accommodate his work schedule. I have to admit I'm a little nervous (and so is he). It's a fun trip, planned a long time ago ~ my lesson will be to try to 'let go' of kitty-worries while I'm away and trust that everything will be ok. I better start practicing...

Wishing everyone in LL a good day!

Re: 2/2 Ripley AMPS 184

Morning Josie ~O) ~O) ~O)

nice start today Ripley - what a pretty blue!

How wonderful on your trip. very cool, and kudos to you for going. I know how the worry is... haven't been on a vacation/trip here in 4.5 years, as there just isn't anyone to cover for me... I am sure your DH will be fine - a few trials runs and he will have it down. Good luck!

Enjoy your day today. I hope it is a good one.

Re: 2/2 Ripley AMPS 184

Hi guys nice start for Ripley! Awesome on the trip! I am sure your DH will be fine and I hope you can relax and enjoy! Have a great Caturday!

Re: 2/2 Ripley AMPS 184

Nice start for Miss Ripley. Too funny you call her Riplestiltskin - my drooler's name is Rumplestitlkin. We call him Rumpy for short. I'm sure Ripley will be fine on your trip. Right after Muffin was dx, I had to go out of town for a wedding. My DS, who was 16 at the time was left in charge of Muffin's care. I called him every day. Turns out he was shooting whenever he woke up, and I don't know how close to 12/12 schedule he kept, but Muffin made it through just fine. I'm sure your DH will do a great job. It will be much harder for you to "let go" and not worry too much. Practice is good!

2/2 Ripley AMPS 184. +4 163, +6 129

Hi, Michelle & Mannie -- Thank you for the kudos! I'm going to one of Mannie's fave hangouts: Disneyland!

Thanks, for visiting, Michelle & Scrabble! I'm sure my DH will do great. It's in my nature to worry  . (I got the worry-gene from my mom .)

Hello, Anne! I'm sure there will be many check-in texts to my DH from my vacation. I love your drooler's name!
Ripley has countless nicknames, most earned from her heftier, younger days (i.e., 'Ripopolis,' ('cause she was as big as a small city), 'Ripzilla,' ('cause she was big enough to crush small cities), "Hungry Hungry Rippo' (now shortened to just 'Rippo') and 'The Big Ripowski.')

Ripley is now out in the sun!
She probably won't make it into the green lagoon, but she is basking near the turtle pond, which is kind of like a green lagoon ~ is that close enough??

Hi Josie, thanks for your visit and vines today. I love her other nickname, Riplestiltskin! :-D :-D I think that's great you have a little holiday trip planned. DH will do great. Nice cycle today.

Hi Josie, thanks for stopping by Jackson's condo! Miss Ripley is having a nice blue day!

I'm sure that your vacation will be good in more ways than one -- relaxation AND taking a break from cat patrol AND getting DH trained in the ways of testing/dosing/shooting, which means you'll be returning home to someone who will also understand the process and can maybe help you to make decisions, etc., etc. Maybe? Trying to help you put a positive spin on this. :)

Maybe you could have a couple of days this week in which he is completely in charge of her care, with you in the background to answer questions, etc. I always appreciate that when I'm learning something new. And it may ease your mind, too.

Hope Ripley has a nice PM cycle!

2/2 Ripley PMPS 197 ?Anyone fed Hi-Tor Neo?

Today's recap:

AMPS 184 (1.1ml Clavamox)
+4.5 163
+5.25 129
PMPS 197 (1.1ml Clavamox)

Not much to report  .

I'm wondering about the Hi-Tor Neo food: it's low in protein and phos, but carb is 10%.
Looking for a food that is suitable for her kidneys and FD.
Have any kitties tried it?
I can only order it by the case, and for some reason Amazon isn't selling it (temporary hold on the product)...

Hope y'all are having a good weekend!

I considered it when I was trying everything on the shelf and under the sun, but low protein is the problem with the prescription kidney foods.

Some Vets still seem to think low protein is called for to support the kidneys, but I believe that info is outdated.

Low phosphorus is key and better quality protein such all meat formulas or even raw.

I think you mentioned Ripley isn't crazy about them, but Merricks BG Turkey or Beef are great for both kidneys and FD.

Re: 2/2 Ripley PMPS 197 ?Anyone fed Hi-Tor Neo?

Hi, Dale! To be honest, my head a spinning a little ~ there's much debate about whether protein is ok for ailing kidneys (Ripley's in stage 3-ish), and I keep finding contradictory advice.
I still have yet to look into a raw diet, but that's next on my list of research pc_work .

She wasn't crazy about the BG Turkey, but that was at the very beginning of her diagnosis, before I knew about the enticement 'tricks.' It's worth another shot!

Hi, Sienne!
We posted at same time.
I've seen her list, and Tanya's list, and I've been making lists of my own combining (and condensing/eliminating) the data. I think I'm overwhelming myself @-) .

I doubt DH will post, but I may while on vaca... We'll see. I don't want to overwhelm him with too much!

Re: 2/2 Ripley PMPS 197 ?Anyone fed Hi-Tor Neo?

I have some leftover Hi-Tor Neo from my civvie CRF kitties if you want to try it.

Re: 2/2 Ripley PMPS 197 ?Anyone fed Hi-Tor Neo?

The Hi-tor Neo is palatable and helps with the phosphorus but it is low quality.

The current thinking on protein is that it be high quality and not be restricted and also not be over fed. I would not feed a low protein diet....cats still need the protein for muscle, etc.

You might try mixing it with Beechnut turkey baby food to get her started. That's what I did. You might also be able to just use the binder with what she is eating now. That along with getting up to speed on the SubQ will hopefully help with more stable labs.

You can surely get started on all this after your getaway?

BTW have enough fun for all of us here!

Thanks, all, for checking in.

I'm going to stick with her current Wellness Turkey (she likes it) and the additions of water, Jarrows B-Right, and Miralax; plus I'll order phos. binder this week and hopefully talk w/vet about starting fluids soon.

I truly appreciate all your insight!

Have a good night!

~Josie
