We weren't able to get an AMPS this morning. The protocol calls for increasing the dose due to his BG numbers, but like I said before I just don't think that's a good idea right now because he tends to be inconsistent. Oz doesn't feel like he's lost weight. He actually feels more filled out when I pet him. There was a tine he was so bony; it was awful. If he sits certain ways he still feels more bony than normal, but overall it's better than it used to be.

Thanks Julie. I'm hoping it arrives soon. The tracking is vague. It LOOKS like it's cleared customs. The tracking indicated it had been sent to customs mid last week. Per the latest tracking update on 1-30, it has been sent to the destination office. Regardless, it's going to be at least 3 days late.

What does everyone think about what our vet told us about his fructosamine level? On 1-20 his fructosamine was right in the middle of the normal range for a non diabetic cat. The vet said being in that range is pretty low for a diabetic cat. Yet the majority of his spot checks are high. Thoughts?

EDIT- Should we keep his dose the same when we start using the pens? What's the chance Lantus that isn't repackaged will be more effective than the repackaged stuff we've been giving him?

Most of us don't bother with fructosamine tests anymore. You are gathering data with your testing that is probably better information than a fructosamine that is just an average over two weeks. Most vets aren't used to clients who home test, so they get a little worried when cats are lower than mid blue. The other possibility is that Ozgood is going a little lower at night. Many cats do, including my Neko. Getting spot checks every night cycle will help you figure out what is happening then.

Are you waiting for the new pens to arrive before increasing? Sometimes adding a little more insulin can also help flatten out the curves.

It's a good idea to weigh our diabetic kitties, at least monthly. If he's gaining more weight than you want, then you can cut the calories back a bit.

We try to get a PM +7 or 8 most nights. Well, I'm not sure what to do about increasing the dose. Usually he's higher than he should be, but there is some green on his chart. Sometimes even down around 50-60. That's all on the same dose. I just hate to increase the dose, even though the protocol says we should, and then have him get too low. It would be easier if he was more flat. I never know when a low reading is going to show up.

I just ordered a digital baby scale tonight. It's supposed to be here Thursday. It should be much easier to keep track of his weight once we can do it at home.
