She has been running high the past couple days. I will have to get in some extra checks today. She is still on antibiotics for her UTI. Do the pill pockets raise BG?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an easier cat liter? I was using Feline Pine, but Miss Kitty won't walk in it, so the vet said it's because she does not like it and that may have led to some of her out of box accidents. So, someone here suggested Dr. ELsey, but that is not working for me, Miss Kitty is using it though. However, it is too difficult to scoop. It gets stuck and I'm prying and digging at it and it gets stuck all over the scooper and that's another 10 minutes or so trying to clean that up. Vet mentioned Yesterday's News. Does anyone have any experience with that? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

I can't answer your question about the litter, as I have been using the same old cheap litter for years, and it tends to stick to the sides of the box and sometimes the scooper. It doesn't do that with my non-diabetic cat's waste, so I think it's the sugar in the urine from J.D. that makes it sticky.

For the pill pockets, you want to use the Feline Greenies Pill Pockets Allergy Formula - Roasted Duck and Pea Formula. At one time, they had stopped making the Feline kind, and we all had to start using the Greenies Allergy Formula Roasted Duck & Pea Pill Pockets for Dogs and we just break off a piece big enough to wrap the pill in and I roll into a ball what I don't use and put it back into the foil pouch. Either type will work. The dog ones are just bigger in size.

Are you able to get some more mid-cycle tests in this weekend? That would help to determine if she needs a dose adjustment.

Thanks Dyana

I can get some checks in this weekend definitely. I'll look for those pill pockets too. She still has quite a few pills left to go.

Morning,
Ella and Rusty have a great litter. Let's ask her when she comes on. I'm with Dyana, we've always used a pretty cheap litter. If i make the litter deep (3" or so) in the litter box, the pee doesn't soak through and i get clumps instead of that sticking to the side and bottom. If someone pees against the side of the box, i've just tossed a bunch of litter on top of it, let it sit for awhile and then it's not so hard to get off the side.
Good luck with your tests this weekend!! take good care. mary and ollie

Ditto on the litter for me. I use an unscented brand that's pretty inexpensive.

If you're using the regular pill pockets (i.e., not the allergy formula), they contain corn syrup. In other words, the regular pill pockets are not diabetes friendly. The allergy formula variety are fine for our kitties.

Thanks. I just looked at what they are and they are the Greenies brand, but not the allergy ones. Do you think one a day of those is making a difference in her BG? I'm going to try Petco today to look for different liter, so I'll look there for the allergy pill pockets.

You might have to look in the dog aisle, as I'm pretty sure they discontinued the duck and pea formula ones for cats.

We use "World's Best Cat Litter"...love it. It's corn based, unscented, and clumps well without sticking to the box.

Yep, Duck and Pea PPs for cats have been discontinued, but the Duck and Pea PPs are still out there for dogs.

Hello! Dr. Lisa has some LB recommendations here. (Not sure if you've seen it -- I'm still exploring her amazing website myself!)

We use cheapo litter from Costco called Litter Purrfect. It's about $8 for 30lbs, and our kitties seem to be ok with it.

Hope you have a great day!

I found the duck/pea pill pockets for dogs. She uses Dr. Elsey on the website, guess I will continue to try with that. I picked up a sturdier, metal scooper too, maybe that will help.

Hi!

Rusty loves The World's Best Cat Litter (I buy the one in the green bag--unscented, clumping; it also comes in a multiple-cat formula and a scented formula). It's expensive, but worth every cent because it lasts and lasts (a full month). It is soft on the cats' feet, clumps well, is easy to scoop, doesn't smell of perfumes, and absorbs odors very well. Shop around for a good price. I like to buy it in the small, 8 lb., bags because they are easy to store. At a local supermarket the small bags cost $7.98, but I have seen them for much more money.

This litter is flushable, although I have never done that. It is made from ground-up corn.

Good luck! There is nothing worse than litter that sticks like cement to your kitty's feet!

Ella & Rusty
