I'm sorry I'm so terrible about signing in with Johnny Cat. Please don't hold it against him!

Johnny experienced his first blizzard yesterday/today! 20 inches of snow and high winds/thunder/lightning and snow late last night. He had fun watching Brian shovel a bunch of snow today and pretty much kept to his usual routine of entertaining himself with his favorite mice toys, sleeping, people watching/letting people see him in the window and repeat cycle. :)

I'm wondering if a dosecrease is needed or if we may have aging insulin. We opened it 11/24, so that's possible and we traveled with it twice. He still hits some good greens at times, but people who have known Johnny since the beginning will remember how much he loves having fresh insulin to take drops from.

I'm also wondering about our meter battery. We have a Relion Micro and have never replaced the battery. Does the meter tell you it's time or does it just stop working? Ours is 9 months old at this point.

I can't speak to the Relion, but my meter is considerably older and I haven't replaced the battery. The meter I use does tell you if the battery is dying. I'd see if you can find a user's manual for the meter.

As for your insulin, I'm suspecting it's a bit toasty. Although, the only way you'll know for sure is to try new insulin.

hi, guys! 20 inches of snow?? yikes!

the relion micro says it will give you a low battery reading, but i thought mine was acting wonky a month or so ago, replaced the battery, and the beeps were stronger, etc.

my idea is kind of when in doubt, replace it (unless it's something spendy...then i use it till it dies!!)

hoping Dr. J gives you some lower numbers!

I have a Freestyle Lite - it says the battery symbol pops up when its low, I never really noticed. One morning I went to pop a strip in...and it went to the normal screen and then just blanked out on me. I had only had it...5 months at the time. Walmart carried the batteries and it was only around $4 for 2, so it might be worth it to just replace the battery.

Sienne - I think we're going to refill the insulin. It's the perfect way to make Johnny want less, right? ;)

Binks - Dr. J? Johnny is poofing out his chest and proudly walking around signing his name poorly at this notion! Thanks!

Amanda - I didn't realize how inexpensive the batteries were. It's probably time to buy one to at least have in the wings.

just wanted to stop by to say hi!
and yes, get a backup battery to have on hand. i never seem to notice the "low battery" indicator on the meter either. i've had the screen go blank on me a couple of times now...

Hi Janice,

Glad that Johnny enjoying the snow watching. I have a relion Ultima and there is a battery icon that shows up when it's getting low. I always keep an extra battery on hand so I won't get stuck. They say the results will be accurate until the time it just stops.

Stay warm.
