feeling good about this, i think it was the flavor and the help of the big brains on marje, libby and sienne

i've been doing the feeding schedule they suggest and it seems like its working.
i also am going back to work next week, but asked to go part time in order to stick with this schedule for another week.
how long do i have to this to be concidered off the juice and once officially otj (<positive thinking) how often should i test?

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114

Hi guys .. such a nice start to the day! Once a cat has been off insulin for 14 days they are considered OTJ .. have a great day guys!

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114

Even after Donovan went OTJ, I still tested him morning and evening for several months. Then I eliminated the morning test (zzzz....), and then I went to every other day, then only Monday/Friday etc. But that's just me. I wanted to catch any potential problems quickly. He was never a low-greens cat; he always had some blues mixed in. It depends on your comfort level. It certainly was nice not to HAVE to test.

hey Sam,

I agree Marje, Sienna and Libby must have huge brains to manage their own cats and give so much advice to everyone else, but are you implying that the rest of us only have little brains :?: :?:

Nice ambg - so close

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114

Sam

If you need to go back to work next week full time, do it. You don't have to keep up this same schedule. We were just seeing if it might help. And things have improved ...it could also be the food!

Let's try this now and see if it was the change in food. What time would you need to test in order to go to work? If it's 7/7, then test. See where he is. If he's above 130 on your AT, test at +3 and see where he is. If he's below 130...no more testing until PMBG. This way, we can see if it was just the food or if it's making sure he eats at +9 that works for him.

Free feed him as you normally do by just putting his food down for the day or get the auto timer and set it up so he eats several small meals during the day and gets used to it while you are still home this week. But if you need to go back to work full time next week, do it. Don't alter your schedule for this because he's doing great!

I think if you try this a couple days and it works, we might as well call it a successful trial with just a blip there.

Time to get on with your life :-D :-D :-D

Sam --

FWIW, I work full time. I have some flexibility with my schedule and like everyone, I can set my shot times for whenever I want. If you rearrange your life around Ruben, at some point, you're going to resent not having a life. It certainly helps to have friends who are understanding should you need to change your plans with them. If I didn't work, I wouldn't be able to afford to care for my kitties. It's certainly your call in terms of what you want to do but you need to have balance.

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114

o:-) marje and sienne- i am going back part time (only next week) not just for ruben(tho it is a big reason) but my left side is getting worse not better so i have to go to the dr.s anyway, but it will be nice to take the extra time to make sure rubens super safe. i'm slightly confused about your suggesion?
should i continue this feeding a tbsp at +9 for the rest of the week? or free feed and test at ambg and pmbg and depending on the number get a +3 but don't do the food at +9? also still pull food up @ +9/10 eitherway?
also what kind of timed feeder do you reccomend? never seen one and not sure how it works with wet food?
my work schedule is basically leave my house @7:15 then home by 7:15 (12 hr days) i do get lunch but dont always get home. my part time schedule next week will be 2-7 m-th fri off so i'll have the mornings and afternoon to test and to make sure ruben mr.p is on track.
love you very much marje & sienne- thank you for all yours and ((((fdmb)))) help.
also what does FWIW mean?

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114

I do still want you to keep feeding 3 hours before "shot" time for as long as you can. It is helping and we want to keep it going! What I don't want is for you to sacrifice your job for this. We can make it work for your schedule. He's not getting shots, so the exact times aren't as important as they would be if you were shooting. This is supposed to be the fun part. ;-)

If you have already decided to work part time next week, that will work for Ruben too, obviously. Keep doing what you're doing, feed at +9 and test at +12. If you are able to test sometimes right before you feed at +9, that will help us see how he is doing in the middle of the day. You don't have to test at +9 all the time, but sometimes would help. Don't let this stand in the way of working full time, though. Just let us know and we can suggest a different schedule.

I think by the end of this week we'll be able to see how that is working and if it needs any tweaks, and maybe call him officially OTJ (anti-jinx). Even once he is OTJ, he might still need the extra meal for a little while to help his pancreas out, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. He just seems to need a little extra help, but that's why we call it a "trial." It gives us a chance to be sure we know what he needs.

I'm so happy this feeding plan is working so far!

Re: 2/19 Ruben ambg 114 +3 115

+3 115
i'm going to get a +9 tonight to monitor. he took a big pee (or so it seemed) but i have been adding lots of water to his food, i have NOT noticed him drinking more, just gonna keep an eye on it.
not gonna worry about the 115 its only 1 point higher and we did have a fire alarm test so im just glad it wasn't higher.
love him, love you guys and gonna clean my house, made lots of important calls and working on being healthy.
i have the best job and they themselves want me back part time next week so its a win win for ruben and i.
please keep praying and sending vines, ruben and i need them. cat_pet_icon
