Really??? I'm just waiting to repeat the other day...but hoping!!!Wow Fran! See why +2's are good practice?
Looks like he's safe for the day![]()
I know, Andy!! I didn't wake up..but NOW I will make sure that the +2 is always done..Thank you...sometimes I have to learn from not doing what I should have!!!I see you just added a question to your title "how to keep bg stable and prevent bounce". If you had gotten a +2 test, you would have seen that he was dropping. At that point, if you feed a bit of regular food, it can help to slow the drop and keep them from bouncing.
There's nothing you can do now except make sure he doesn't go too low.
Thank you..lacking experience in this area does not seem to allow me accept "bounces" as good if they continue forever (exaggeration). Your reassurance is appreciated !!!Fran, when you get a chance, read through this thread about bouncing:

I think part of the problem is caregivers think of bouncing as a problem. Bouncing is a natural reaction and it's a darn good thing kitty has that reaction!
Years ago we had a kitty come to the FDMB who had just experienced a severe vet-induced hypo. One of the results of the hypo (there were many) was the kitty seemed to have lost it's ability to react to lower numbers with a bounce. The caregivers had to be especially careful when treating their cat because that self-defense mechanism in that cat didn't work any more. In other words, the cat couldn't react the way it's body was supposed to react.
Elliott is reacting just as his body was designed to react. Believe it or not, that's a good thing!![]()
Andy!!! I wrote that because someone said I needed to put the question in the title if I had a question...AND You just answered it!!!! Now, as instructed by a member, I will remove the ? mark...but keep watching please,,if you will!!!!I see you just added a question to your title "how to keep bg stable and prevent bounce". You know well I'm watching you Franbut keep watching please,,if you will!!!!

OKAY..Thanks..I wasn't sure if when I fell asleep (after +6 on 2/17), it was coincidence, that Elliott's BG surged in the 3 hours..because I wasn't feeding him.For Max to minimize bouncing I had to test at least every hour or two and feed mini meals depending on his numbers. Bounces happen from dropping too quickly or being in lower numbers than they are used to.
I really do know that..because you seem to always show up EXACTLY when I start to worry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You know well I'm watching you Fran
Along with many others here. We got your back![]()
NO....that was the bounce kicking in.OKAY..Thanks..I wasn't sure if when I fell asleep (after +6 on 2/17), it was coincidence, that Elliott's BG surged in the 3 hours..because I wasn't feeding him.
Confusionnnnnn!!! So, if the bounce kicking in=releasing glucose, then adding carbs would make it worse? BUT...If I had done what YOU told me to do, by adding small amts carbs early consistently, the bounce would not have needed to kick in?NO....that was the bounce kicking in.
Not exactly.Confusionnnnnn!!! So, if the bounce kicking in=releasing glucose, then adding carbs would make it worse? BUT...If I had done what YOU told me to do, by adding small amts carbs early consistently, the bounce would not have needed to kick in?

I hope so..Oh..another PJ party?..OK..I left the house a week ago Tuesday simply to go for a routine 1/2 hr-Dr check-up.. enough outings for the month? I'm just being facetious...Whatever and however long it takes..Thanks for the encouragement!!!Just think....if he breaks his bounce on the 3rd cycle again, you might be having another PJ party tomorrow night!! Aren't you excited?
Elliot's doing so much better!! Hopefully this is just the beginning of even better things to come!
I need to learn to analyze the pattern like you all do...I'll try!!! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It's always good to see the positive side of FD!
He's bouncing until he comes down. No way to know when that will be, but the last bounce cleared in the 3rd cycle after the greens that caused the bounce. Often bounces will clear more quickly as the cat spends more time in normal numbers, so I'd *guess* that he will clear it in another 3 cycles - or less.
But that's only a guess.
So, you looked at Cycle 3=green is like Cycle 6... so maybe Cycle 4 and 5 will be... Cycle 7 and 8. And maybe, Cvcle 9 might be like Cycle 3=green? A guess, I know but can only hope for a pattern of something..Thank you..It gives me something to think about!!!!!!!It's always good to see the positive side of FD!

Fran's response:OK- so this brings me to another question. Jetta is famous for her fast HUGE drops. I know if I shoot her at 250 and she drops like a stone I can bring her up with gravy/Karo. But, can it still be managed the same way if I shoot at 100 and she dives? Basically I'm wondering if there's ever a point where you can't manage the numbers with food/sugar, as in is there a point where you can't counteract the insulin?
Hi Fran. Since it usually creates confusion, we don't like to bump threads that are a few years old to the top of the forum. I'll copy and paste your response from Jetta's thread dated 10/29/2013. We can discuss here or in today's thread if you'd like (after you start a new one for today).
Fran's response:
Gosh..Iguess many of us think or suspect somewhere in this world, there are answers. However, these extremely smart "Cat People" really know their stuff and that Lead me to believe "most of the time"...They are right!! However, my research abilities seem to be lacking lately due to being tired, worried and unable to focus on much other than caring for Elliott. The usual (anda very recent) comment from family was when I saw a picture of me sitting in front of my pc next to my books...He said on FB.."Well, she' s at it again. And won't move until she solves whatever. In a week..a month..Who knows?" That's it not true now. However, there are some very sophisticated writings/studies on Rebound Hyperglycemia that I could not completely comprehend at the time..But all touched on the why and how to understand physiological responses by studying insulin on diabetic vs non-diabetics....all have already researched this I am sure..but something stuck out? As we give the Insulin..at the same time that the isles are producing/ releasing Insulin? ..uneven due to obstruction of ducts,etc..In the here and now, I have no energy to focus on this..Maybe someone has a subscription to Journal of Feline Medicine by way of that International one...
