yesterdays condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=36885

This didn't fit in the subject line of yesterdays condo, but his overnight +7 was 296

Anyway, I'm gonna shoot his normal amount and see how he does. I'll be away for a few hours in a little bit, but before I leave and right as I get home, I'll do another BG check.

He seems pretty good this morning. I'm debating on if I want to give him a sliver of Mirtazapine, to pick up his appetite. Probably not though, he is eating on his own.

Someone had mentioned that fluids can sometimes cause BG to go down.. I switched his fluid time from the PM to mornings/early afternoon.. would that have been the reason this happened??

Oh, I also just did another ketone test.. it looks like it's somewhere (color wise) between negative and trace.. what do I do for that?? Anything??

I have heard that "trace" ketones are actually pretty easy to see on the stick - that it "glows" a little more than negative does. I'm not sure, though. You could always test yourself and see what the color looks like. Be sure you're checking it at exactly the time the package says, too. If you wait even a few more seconds, the color can change.

If he is starting to show ketones, then the first step is to get fluid into him. You're already doing fluids, but you can also add more water to his food. Be sure he is eating enough, and get another ketone test when you can.

Some cats show a drop in their numbers after fluids are administered, and some don't. The best way to know for sure is to test, give fluids, test an hour and two hours after the fluids (and maybe 3 hours), and see what the numbers do. Try that several times and write down the results and see if there is a pattern.
