I need as many eyes as I can get on Panzer's blood work from Monday on his labs please. A couple of people are thinking I should change foods to get a jump on it. I currently have 9 cases of fancy feast from chewy still wrapped( not sure if they will do a return?) I also have more loose cans. My client that I cleaned his house is going to buy some of the loose can cases from me, because his cat eats fancy feast pate's so that helps me get $ towards some Weruva & or BFF food for him. I will be calling chewy tomorrow. I pray my baby doesn't have this, he is my heart! I currently have a call into the vet as well. At the appointment on Monday he said something about his kidneys but didn't mention kidney disease. He didn't do alot of what he should have done at the appointment. If anyone knows of a good vet in the area that I live please let me know. Thanks in advance! @Diane Tyler's Mom maybe you could tag some people who know labs? https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...2-5-91-4-5-82-6-5-82-7-5.259342/#post-2914376

Sorry to hear about Panzer, I hope it's nothing serious but even though having kidney issues (or chronic kidney desease ) it is not good it is not so terrible either you may need to make some changes to his diet and work around it but it is manageable, especially if it is caught early and you start taking care of his kidneys. One thing though is important to consider that since Panzer is diabetic , renal diets are not good for him, and actually unless his kidney problems are really very much advanced which doesn't seem to be the problem since he is not showing any real symptoms yet he does not need it so if the vet recommends you to change his diet to a renal don't' do it check here first to see what would you need and post his lab results here so that we can take a look a them and see how he's really doing

I just read the last thread and I seems he's had a bladder infection does the labs you updated in your spreasheet were taken when he had the infection? and by any chance did the vet did an SDMA test this time ? He was 15 last year which is an early warning

His creatinine has raised from last time even though is not high enough for you to worry too much as are his phosphorus levels but if he was in the middle of the infection that could actually raise those numbers a bit and you would need to have some blood tests done once he's cleared the infection.

But even though with this numbers he is just showing signs of early kidney desease and giving him a low phosphorus low carb diet should help him a lot

Yes he did have a bladder infection when this blood work was done. SDMA is not included on the paper copy of the blood work that was done. I see what your talking about though from September of last year. I talked to him on the phone earlier & he said he is no where near kidney disease but I believe all of you over him. He is supposed to email me his blood work & I confirmed that he had everything correct in my email address, so hopefully I will get that tomorrow & hopefully fill in some of the blanks. I will be taking him back for blood

( it posted the reply before I was finished)Blood work in a month or so & making sure they test for everything even if I have to switch vets! For now I'm going to continue the fancy feast but also order some of the foods on the list with high phosphorus in them & see how he likes them. I'm just worried about his #s. Do you have a link for carb counts in fancy feast pate's so I can compare the carbs?

Unfortunately I am not great at labs, but I'll tag @Katherine&Ruby. I know Diane has a lot of good info when she gets online.

I think a LOT of people use this site: https://www.felinecrf.org/
Ok thank you. I took a look at some of the things on that link & Panzer does not have any of the symptoms, so I think he's good for now. Once he is over this infection I will take him in for blood work again in a month or so & make sure they test for everything. I will probably find another vet though since this one apparently didn't do a full panel. I will also have the test for pancreatitis done & have my questions ready. I got alot of good info on 2-14 post & have been taking notes so I know exactly what to ask this time!

Hey Christina, I think you mean you will order some of the food with low phosphorus, not high. Don't worry , wait until his infection is gone and then do all his labs again.

Maybe Wendy @Wendy&Neko can take a look at his labs concerning Panzer's kidneys

Yes that is what I meant & yes that's the plan because this infection could very well be affecting his labs. The labs done in September could have been affected as well by his teeth. That is when they discovered that he needed dental surgery & he had 15 teeth pulled. He only has 2 left his top front teeth. I would still be very grateful for anyone's input on his labs though :bighug: @Diane Tyler's Mom @Wendy&Neko

His labs really don't look that bad, is might very well be because he has an infection, Wendy will probably see the tag tomorrow. Try and not worry :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Has Panzer ever had a urinalysis run? It would be helpful to see if his kidneys are concentrating the urine. The USG or urine specific gravity will tell you that. If your vet has a working spectrometer in the office, you can just collect urine at home at get them to test the USG. That way the cat does not have to go in. Get a morning sample if you can, it's usually the most concentrated.

His phosphorus is sneaking up, so your plan to introduce some lower P foods may be helpful.

Remember I said that it looks like he may be trending toward having kidney problems but not that he has them yet. I also recommended the urinalysis when you posted the 2/14 labs.

I never wanted to send you into a panic. I do understand that strong love that you have for Panzer! I only suggested that since his phosphorus was a little high that you try switching to a lower - moderate- phosphorus food. That reduces the load on the kidneys since the kidneys are where the phosphorus is processed through the body. It’s not time to panic! And yes, cats who do have kidney disease can live a long time — and you’re not even there yet! Nor do we know for sure that you and Panzer ever will be! My cat recently got an SDMA of 15 and the vet wasn’t too concerned this point as her other kidney values were okay. And for that matter, I have had cats with a high SDMA result and the next time it was tested the number was lower and into the normal range.

Your vet is right. He doesn’t have kidney disease at this time. There are just some trends to keep an eye on. The vet, in his or her defense, was probably just trying to address your immediate concern about a possible urinary tract infection. And the vet was perhaps trying to save you some money as well. Was it a curbside drop off type thing? I don’t think we get as good of vet care when we can’t be in there with our cats.

You have a good plan to recheck the labs later when Panzer is not ill. You may even want to wait and do a three month re-check. This will give you time to transition to new food and you will be able to see how the labs are at that time.

Oh, and one more thing. Some cats live many more years with CKD. Catching it early is a good thing.
That's good to know! He probably has had a urinalysis in the past but not for awhile. As soon as he is over his bladder infection I will collect some morning urine. I think I'm going to have to find a new vet first. The vet I have now is pretty old & probably doesn't even think about all of the stuff that you guys know. Also I specifically got a care credit card for Panzer & they don't take it because there practice had a issue with them. That's all I have for Panzer care right now. Thanks for your input Wendy it's greatly appreciated from me & Panzer :bighug: Christina

Don't feel bad I saw you & Diane's post right before I left for work & not only was I freaked out about him possibly having kidney disease, I was freaked out because I have 15 cases of fancy feast & no $ to get anything different right now! & yes Panzer is my whole heart:bighug:my baby just as everyone else's babies are:cat: I love my vet but I think he is just getting to old for the job & he's more of a dog vet. Thanks to all of your knowledge & everyone else whom has helped me with Panzer, I can now take notes on everything that you guys have suggested & talked about & when me & Panzer go to a new vet that I am currently looking for. We can get a urinalysis, a real full panel bloodwork (lots missing out of Monday bloodwork) & check for pancreatitis if needed. As for the food change it will have to wait for a couple of weeks until I figure out my finances being that I just moved & got back to having my own place. Also now that I have a few days off of work I can compare the carbs in what he is eating now & the low phosphorus foods you guys recommend & go from there. I definitely don't want his #s to go up again. I have worked to hard with the help of all of you to get Panzer where he is now. His #s are great & he is doing great minus the bladder infection& hopefully once I do change over foods that won't change! Thank you so much for all of the knowledge & help you have given me with Panzer & I look forward to more help because this is all new to me. Thank God I learned to home test & found you guys because I don't think Panzer would have made it otherwise:bighug:please continue to stay by our side & help we greatly appreciate it! :bighug: Christina

Really cats with CKD, even with much more advanced CKD can have long happy lives, they may need a bit more of care, especially with their food but not much more, Babu has had CKD for 4 years now and one of my civies has had it for over 10 years ( she is 16 years old) and I had another one who also lived with the CKD over 12 years and died of something else totally unrelated.

Given Panzer numbers don't stress to much about changing his diet right away do it slowly as he eats what you already have so that you don't have to spend more money right now just start the change when you resupply

Me too. Where would I be without my care credit. Some of my cats would literally be dead now without it.

I agree. I would use up all of my old food and not worry about it — I mean I would transition slowly.

Christina, you are an amazing cat mom! You are doing sooooo well in taking care of him! You are mastering this whole diabetic cat thing.
I’m glad you feel better now. I felt awful. I felt like I sent you into a tizzy and then I checked out because I had an injured cat and another one I am nursing.

I'm also sorry if I got you upset, finish the food you have and you can get his labs done again in about 3 months from now. Don't worry about anything now, his labs are not bad at all. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you no matter what I will do whatever it takes for my baby & I'm so sorry about the loss of your one baby :cat:I've had quite a few kitty's over the years that I've lost. My boy Spooky to cancer in 2007 & said I would never have another cat & then I found Panzer in 2012 & I am glad I did because he gets me through tough times & I do him. He definitely has this momma wrapped around his paw:bighug:hoping for many many more years with him!

I was very glad that I worked on getting my credit straight to buy a house, that didn't work out for right now, but I've got quite a few credit cards & thats basically what I use them for cat food, diabetic testing supplies, in

Oh. I want so much for you to have many many more years with Panzer! How did you name him? Cool name! I do miss my dearest love, Mr. Darcy, every day. It gets easier, eventually, I know because I have experienced a lot of loss, but I never will forget him and will see him again.

Yes that's the plan. Tomorrow I'm going to sit down & figure out the carb counts & figure out which of the 3 on the list would work out $ wise best because I will be changing my other 2 kittys over to the same diet as well.

Thank you that means alot to me:bighug: oh know it sounds like you've got your hands full healing prayers for you & your babies!

Yes I will never forget my Spooky & hope to buy my childhood house where him & so many more of my babies are buried someday:( one of my ex boyfriend's who found him on Craigslist named him, he was crazy wanted to name him Hitler & of course I said no way so Panzer it was. I'm glad that crazy dude is out of my life but he came in to my life for few horrible years for, a reason & that would be my baby boy very thankful for him. Panzer & I have a very deep bond & I believe we are even closer now that we have been home testing even though he scratches me up sometimes, he's still very cooperative. When I say let's test he's up & in his chewy box ready & waiting purring sometimes, then a little growling & smacking me:smuggrin: but it's all good we get the job done & he gets his boiled chicken treat & sometimes it's feed time & he's a very happy kitty. He likes to run around the house & me chase him once he gets his belly full:cat:

I'm also sorry if I got you upset, finish the food you have and you can get his labs done again in about 3 months from now. Don't worry about anything now, his labs are not bad at all. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Your fine Diane if it weren't for you I wouldn't know what I'm doing on here Lol I still have trouble attaching the right post:smuggrin:You taught me alot & you were there for me & Panzer alot in the beginning & you still are & we are very grateful for you:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you! I do cat rescue and it can get overwhelming at times - feral cat colonies to care for as well.
Oh wow that's alot I had quite a few Ferrell kitty's where I just moved from. Unfortunately one of my girl kitty's got a hold of a sticky mouse trap & died in my arms in my upstairs bedroom. About a week later her brother went missing not sure if he got stolen or if the coyotes got him:(. I thought I saw him about a year later when I was taking a walk but he ran so I couldn't tell for sure. My 3rd Ferrell kitty came home with a poisonous sticky trap stuck to her beautiful long hair, so I took her in got her cleaned up & to the vet & got her checked for any diseases that could be harmful to my other kitty's. She got clean bill of health & I brought her inside & tried to get her used to my kitty's & being inside Unfortunately it didn't work but I found her a good home so it all worked out! That's great that you do rescue your kitty's are lucky to have you :bighug:
