Hi all,

I tested Casey this morning before I fed her and got 220 - a new AMPS low, yay!

I usually give her 1.5u, and I have to go to work all day - should I go ahead and give her her shot? I'm going to give it to her around 7:45.

Her chart link is below. I took her AMPS already so I'd get a reading unaffected by food.

Thanks for any advice! :-D

Re: 2/16 Casey AMPS 220 - should I shoot?

Looking at her spreadsheet you should be fine to shoot. if you are really worried just leave her a little extra food out, but she shouldn't go too low while you are gone, she has a long ways to go before you would have to worry about a hypo.

Thanks, Fur Gang! :-)

As you can see, I changed the thread title. I didn't like the ReliOn Micro meter that I bought, so I got a Confirm and tried it out tonight (I don't like that on the Micro you have to do a LOT of scrolling to check past levels, dates, etc.)

Anyway, imagine my surprise when I took her PMPS and got 403...and at +2.5 I got a 181!! She's never had a drop of more than 200 points in two and a half hours!

Should I be concerned about this? Actually the first time I tested her BG at +2.5 it came back LO - less than 20! I knew that had to be wrong (I messed up and didn't draw all the blood at once), so I tested her again right after and got 141, then a third time and got 181.

I've NEVER gotten a blue number before this, and I'm a little freaked! Is this sort of thing normal? The drop in BG, I mean, not me being freaked, because that's actually pretty much an everyday occurance...

Musette will do that if she is coming off a bounce, but it does bare watching fairly close, just to make sure she isn't going to keep doing those big leaps downward.

The one thing I don't like about the Relions is they seem to be pretty touchy about the amount of blood on the strip...too much and it reads high, not enough it reads low, but since I only use it to spot check on Maxwell it works great for him.

That 403 could have been a bounce from earlier today and she just decided to start clearing it quickly. Just keep and eye on her and try to get a test before bed to see where she is headed.

Just went and looked at her spreadsheet...last night's number at +2 and tonight's are pretty much the same number if you allow for the +/- 20% that all meters have so I'm sure that 403 is just a little bounce.

Did you use the same meter for both of tonight's readings?? Because the other thing it could be is the difference in the two meters as well.

I had to use my old Relion Ultima for the PMPS, because I had the Micro boxed up and in the car to return to WalMart (turns out they don't take returns on health care equipment - does anyone need a glucometer???), and I didn't have the Confirm set up yet. However, I always thought the Ultima was pretty reliable, and Casey's had high PMPS before, so it didn't really concern me, until I took the +2 and got those wacky numbers.

I did her AMPS this morning and got 228! :-D This might be a separate thread sort of question, but should I keep her on 1.5 for another week, or bump her up to 2 units this weekend? I have company coming but we're going to be home most of the time, so I can keep an eye on her.

Casey's doing great, she's laying at my feet right now grooming herself! I think overall she's feeling better. :-D

I would leave her right where she is since her preshots for the most part are still dropping and with that blue number last night at +2.5 last night.

What I would suggest if she doesn't get really stressed out around your company, since you are going to be home most of the day, try getting either a curve (every 2 hours) or a mini curve ( every 3 hours) in to see where she is going at her nadir. Afterall Lantus is dosed off the nadir and you don't have a nadir reading for several days to see if she is going really low around then or not, so it is hard to know if she needs more or less at this point.

Sounds like a great suggestion! :-D Thanks! I'll try to do a curve or mini-curve tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Sounds like a plan..will be interesting to see how she is doing throughout the day. :-D

I remember the first time we got a LO reading. My husband nearly had a heart attack. I had read on here that one of the reasons is because there wasn't enough blood/got sipped up too slowly - so I was calm, but the look on his face was of shear fear. Luckily I was able to calm him down...I can only imagine if I didn't know since I tend to freak out more.

Mel gave you tons of good advice - she's awesome like that! All I can say is make sure that you get lots of testing done -- even if its a few numbers each day...it helps when those numbers start getting lower b/c you'll know your cat and how she responds. The first time we got a blue as a preshot number we freaked out...but now we get greens and are completely calm about it. But that only came with data because then you knew were she's going kinda...takes the "unsureness" out of the situation.

Keep us posted!

I sure will! I test whenever I can, but I have a full-time job so that isn't very often during the week. Usually when I get home, and then the PMPS and the +2 after that. By +4 I'm usually in bed!!

Tested Casey at +9 and got 438. Something is sure driving her numbers up in the afternoon! We'll see what it is tomorrow when I'm home...

Its interesting (although a bit nerve wrecking at first) when you start getting the lower numbers. Youre doing great! Interested to see where casey takes you!

And i totally know what you mean about getting in testing during the week...work all day and im asleep by PM +2! Lol.
