Leroy is defective ohmygod_smile His nasopharngyl polyp thingy has been irritating him a lot lately. Yesterday morning he coughed/lip smacked/swallowed something mucousy 6 times within half an hour  The last two coughs were more like loud honking  Off goes an email to Dr. B. I later called Dr. B to make sure he got the email (sometimes it gets stuck in the spam filter). Dr. B said that it would be good to examine Leroy (again. Leroy and Emma saw Dr. B in December). He asked about x rays and I told him that those were done. He looked through more of Leroy's records and mentioned that he should do bloodwork as well because last time (November) creatine level was bordeline high (1.9 mg/dl with range of 0.7 to 1.8) and wants to check to make sure that Leroy's kidneys are ok.

I Googled high creatine level in Abys and apaprently Abys can have an inherited genetic condition called amyloidosis which is basically a form of kidney disease  I hope that's not why Leroy's creatine was/is high nailbite_smile

Oh, and did I mention that Leroy has ADD? ohmygod_smile

I'm dropping Leroy off with Dr. B on Feb 25. Dr. B wants to stick an endoscope in Leroy's throat and see what's inside. No food that morning so Dr. B and his vet techs will have their hands full with a screaming Leroy until he gets knocked out with anesthesia

More money to spend on Leroy's vet bills ohmygod_smile Good thing I get my bonus and pay raise next month. I was talking to the vet at work today about Leroy's latest issues and he said that he knows exactly where my bonus is going  I have the worst luck with pets. They all end up with some health issue @-) Emma (so far nailbite_smile ) hasn't had anything major, just the ileus last year (with a cute pancrease :-D )

Didn't the breeder tell you that Abys are incredibly active cats? They are like the Energizer Bunny on speed. It's characteristic of the breed. You might want to PM Lisa/Do Lou since she breeds Abys.

Good luck with coming to grips with Leroy's issues. I hope that the tests will yield a diagnosis so that Leroy will get the meds and the treatment he needs. Hang in there, Squeem!

The breeder did and I knew I wanted an active cat. Just didn't expect Leroy to be this crazy  Actually right now he's sitting somewhat quietly on my lap waiting for me to feed him the other half of his raw nugget.

Thanks  The polyp thing can be removed and hopefully won't cause any more issues. The creatine levels might need to be checked on occasionally.

Poor Leroy. He's just the CUTEST!

I feel the same way as you-I always get cats with some issue or another. I have Trupanion pet insurance now on both cats after my last $4000 ER/surgery episode with kitten Trinket breaking her leg on Halloween. I am hoping because I am paying for insurance that they will never get ill, ya know?

   Leroy is the most charming ADD guy we know!!

sending vines & healing energy for his tests...hope it's all an easy fix, Squeem!!

Lol, Celi haha_smiley That is exactly Leroy  He is so easily distracted by everything. And he jumps into the air and runs off trilling if you touch him while he's distracted

I was looking at MeLife pet insurance (I think it's just VPI through the MetLife company). Not sure if it's really worth getting or not. With my luck, getting insurance means the health issues will start piling up

I think God sends us the defective ones because he knows they will get the best care humanly possible. I hope everything is okay. Can you give Leroy a hug and a kiss from me? Do Aby's get asthma? Mucousy cough is also a symptom. Hang in there.

Or I must be wearing a big sign visible only to animals that says "Pick me if you want the best vet care for your various ailments"

Squishy also sent Leroy to me. Maybe he somehow knew that Leroy would need me to take care of future health issues.

Will do  cat_pet_icon

I think all cats can get asthma. Squishy had asthma so I'm pretty familiar with it. The way Leroy coughs and how he does the lip smacking and gasping and swallowing doesn't fit into the typical asthma description.

Maverick did a lot of swallowing with his asthma. He never wheezed unless we were in the car, he would hyperventilate. No lipsmacking either from what I remember. Give Emma a hug from me too
