So far, so good on 1.75 units. Yesterday he started out at 137 AMPS, worked his way down to 63 at +9, then back up to 117 for PMPS, followed by 85 at +5.5 (I couldn't stay up any longer to try to get him at nadir, but this seemed like a safe level to trust him at since he seems to drop earlier the nights that he's gotten too low at night. Now back to 126 at AMPS
(and this is on the Bravo, which does tend to test a tad higher than my One Touch: now that I've figured out that the two meters are indeed closer to each other at the low end of the scale, we'll probably just stick with using the Bravo and being a bit more conservative when he's dropping very low, since it's cheaper and takes a smaller drop of blood)

Tonka had a good day yesterday: got to go outside since it was so nice out (I think we're in one of the only warm pockets in the north two/thirds of North American right now), enjoyed muddying up his paws, got a touch farther off his hocks than he has in the last couple months, and started out today wrestling with Teeger.

Well, he seems to be heading down a little too far. It probably didn't help that he didn't finish off his breakfast until just now (+6), but he often grazes throughout the day/night, so that's not really a change to his schedule.

Just added 1 tbsp of higher carb food (17%) to his plate as he was gobbling it down. The low carb might have been enough, since he is close to nadir, but I wanted to bring him up quickly. Guess we'll see where he is in half an hour.

This is the end of the 6th cycle since I reduced him to 1.75 units from 2.0. What are the chances that the depot is still feeding this lowering blood sugar level? Should I reduce him down to 1.5 tonight and see how he does at that dosage for a few days?

Good thing you are home today Jordi! Good catch. You can surf a little higher now Tonka. :D

I'd reduce to 1.5 units tonight. The depot can affect 4-6 cycles (depending on size of dose) and you had one cycle of 1.5 already in there. Congrats on the reduction. :)

Tonka's SS looks so much nicer now! We too are in that warm pocket of North America. I like seeing double digits again.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's definitely helping having some non-rebound daytime cycles that I can be around to witness. His cycles before were all over the place, largely because I was afraid to dose him consistently when I didn't know what he was going to do, but I think also because he was rebounding so much. Thankfully, his body seems to be calming down in response to the lower levels at last... Now I just have to hope that he doesn't get so used to being at that level that he stops rebounding when he really needs the extra sugar.

In any case, his gobbling helped: he's back up to 3.3 (59) now, at +6.5. Hopefully the lower carb food he ate first will stretch out the higher levels so that he doesn't drop again right away.

And 4.6 (83) at +7. Hopefully this is just the food kicking in and not a rebound. Oh well - I'm glad he's back up, either way.

It's not quite as warm in Alberta as it is farther west (no double digits), but the sun is positively lovely today. The boys were back out basking in it for a while this afternoon. And more muddy paw prints all over the house

Good to see that Tonka joined the lagoon party, and a reduction to boot - go Tonka :D:D:D

In relation to 'rebounding' when everything's functioning back to relative normality the liver will still release extra sugar when it thinks it's necessary it just won't go so crazy about it once it's used to the body being in normal cat numbers again and will do small adjustments to stay in normal levels instead of large floods to get the BG up to the levels it was thinking we're normal, so although you won't see huge spikes it will still be doing its job :)

Considering that he's still climbing (6.7 [121] at last test, at +8) and hasn't eaten since +6, I have a suspicion that his liver is being nice and functional right now.
I guess it's just a reaction that I don't want to have to rely on, in case it doesn't kick in someday when he needs it. But I am glad for it.
