Ok so we are down to 219 this morning so I cut back to 1.5 u. I promised my vet I wouldn't do this on my own but the low number scared me a little since I will be gone for 8 hours today.

no harm done, IMHO. One has to do what one is comfortable with when you will not be home to monitor. I am sorry that you had a rough weekend. I too am surprised at their dose recommendation. I just think it is/was too much. I truly believe that you can trust what you read here - these folks have alot of experience, and are very knowledgeable. They have literally gotten us to where we are today, and I am grateful. We went through 1.5 years of vet recommendations before i found this board. during that time we had 3 hypos, a bunch of other stuff. since being here Mannie is doing so much better - these guys do know their stuff.

Try not to worry today - it is a great amps - you did what you felt was right.

You have hooked up to the best resource of Feline Diabetes in the world--So many of us were told by vets to do things that we read here, that might not be good for our babies..And were helped 100 times over by info we received here.
I believe in keeping my cat well & safe..I listened to the people here & my cat, who was my 1st vet, wanted me to give 4 units of humilin N insulin to Moonie..Board here said No too much!. It saved her life--Got a new vet, Moonie got better..
Story told...
Hope it gets better & better here for you!

Thanks for the encouragement. I have to say my vet was very receptive and loves the SS. We were supposed to do a fructosamine next week but he said I should just keep "doing my thing" and we will see what the numbers are for a few more weeks and then decide. I have a feeling he recommended the 2u because he probably has a lot of pet owners that would be confused with half doses and most of his pts don't home test. He really has stressed slow and low and for a pet owner that isn't proactive, 1 to 2 may be the norm. I really respect him especially after the fiasco at the 24 hour place this weekend. Java probably would have been better off at my vet with someone checking a couple times a day. At least he would not have been given dry food! Anyway he is doing great today and has once again forgiven me. He is a big cuddler and we are back to our smoochies and kitty full-body massages. Thanks again for the encouragement!
