DC is having a good day.
He's very playful and cuddly.
The vet would like him to gain 1 1/2 pounds.
He weighs 10 1/2 pounds right now.
He's lost about a pound in the past 2 months.
I can't get him to eat more than what he does, so I'm wondering if anyone know of a LC food that is higher in calories?
DC is a very picky cat. He'll eat anything that has gravy on it, but as far as the pate styles go, he'll only eat Friskies right now.
I'm willing to try different brands if anyone has any ideas.

Re: 2/15 DC AMPS=101 food question

i don't know how you can be so calm with that incredibly awesome spreadsheet that DC's got going! cuz you KNOW what it almost looks like, don't you? antijinx.

i think i'd try just giving more volume total in more frequent smaller meals. for example, if you're giving 6 oz now per day in 4 meals, maybe trying 9oz and give it in 6 meals spread throughout the day.

we're watching you. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Hi Noreen

Karrie recommended a product called MaxCal for Lydia's Sid to get more calories in. I understand it is an Iams prescription food so you will need to order through your vet. Apparently it has 330 calories per can which is the highest you can get. Sid seems to like it.

I don't know what it's carb count is though. I have never seen the product in Australia but if it's prescription you should be able to get a complete breakdown of its contents or maybe just ask Karrie.

DC you are such a good role model for all the other LL kitties - keep up the good work!

Re: 2/15 DC AMPS=101 food question

Hi, Noreen,
I know of a couple of brands that are low carb and high fat that have more calories -- EVO and Wellness. Wellness Kitten, for example, is low carb at 5, but has 216 calories in a 3oz can (most are 80-90 calories). That's what I gave to Mookie when he needed to gain weight and he loved it. In fact, that's how he started eating pates. Eukanuba makes the MaxCal, and it is a 6oz can. I hope that helps.

DC has never liked EVO or Wellnes. I've never tried the Wellnes kitten though.
I'll have to pick up a can of it and also I'll get a can of the Eukanuba to try.

I feed DC 1/4 can of Friskies at a time, usually 6 times a day.
He doesn't usually eat it all though. He probably eats about 7 oz per day.
The vet gave me 3 different choices of dry food.
I told him I wouldn't feed dry and he was ok with that, but couldn't recommend a higher calorie wet food.
He said he wasn't familiar enough with one to recommend it.
He did tell me to do some research and he'd be ok with whatever I decided.
