Good Morning.... ~O)

Fiesty, frisky, and hungry kitty this morning!

Busy day ahead.

Buddy had a training lapse and the owner finally witnessed my HUGE concern with the idea of having his young boys walk a 80 lb. untrained puppy. As I explained to him, he should have no illusions that I will give my blessing to that activity until Buddy can conduct himself in a reliable manner. Re-emphasized that Buddy needs a professional trainer and they must find time to get it done, for the safety of the kids and dog ohmygod_smile . This was one of those conversations where you have it through gritted teeth, but in a way you are happy that they actually witnessed the poor job of training they have done with their dog.

I spent another 30 minutes having to explain that Buddy is not a cut and dried training matter. Buddy developed some very bad and very dangerous habits that make walking him very frightening, except for the most experienced handlers (frantic antics on the end of the leash, bolting across the street, general startle response to daily things/events). I am not known for my tact most days and cut to the chase. The probelm is them and not the dog. They expected this dog to train himself or the boys to train the puppy over last summer. Only now are they realizing the folly of those choices. What could have been prevented for as little as $15 a week(puppy training classes) now requires a professional trainer to supplant behaviors in BOTH the owners and dog. ohmygod_smile

Up side to all this is the wife has walked the dog and has seen a vast improvement. Second Buddy is being seen by people on the street and they actually stop to give compliments to his good behavior. So he is improving, but these owners must get to a professional trainer because something is going on in the home that is failing the dog.

Nice sunny yellow! Great to hear Attie is feeling so good today.

Oh wow on the Buddy situation! We took our lab to puppy classes for over 2 years and I am thankful every day that we did. Labs are the sweetest dogs, but can be do destructive and aggressive if they do not know their place in the pack. A 90 pound unruly dog is not something anyone wants and it is usually the owners fault, not the poor dog. Good luck on getting through to them.

Have a great day Beth!
