Happy Valentines Day to all our Lantus Land friends, and Happy Birthday to Raja and Shadow!

Willie continues to do as well as can be expected. Lots of energy trotting around the house this morning. Tracked him down at bedtime for cuddles, and he begrudgingly complied (with a giant PURRRRRRR). Both breakfasts eaten with gusto, and a nice number to work from. Of course, I am at work all day today and can't really sneak home, so we mixed some Natural Balance into the raw food in a 50/50 ratio, which should work fine to keep his numbers in the safe zone. Hopefully he doesn't bounce too much off the goodies! He has found a new perch... I keep the pet carrier out on the floor with the door open so he can check it out and not hate it. He has taken to laying on top of it. LOL With the beautiful weather in the 50s today, I opened the window in the sunroom which faces the street and put one of his pet beds in the window so he can get some fresh air and do some people watching today. Put him up there and watched him for 5 minutes... he seemed to be quite pleased.

Snow continues to melt here, with mostly the big piles left. Supposed to be almost 70 on Thursday!!! Gotta love February in Middle America!! At least it isn't going to snow that night! LOL When I lived in Nebraska, there were so many February days like that... 50 degrees at 5am, 70s by afternoon, cold front blows through around 5pm, with 3-4 inches of snow by 9pm. Crazy!!

Okay, off to take my lunchtime walk in a bit. Will likely check in on condos a bit later!!

Hey, Kitchen Krew! I'z been perfecting a new liver smoothie recipe with a speshul ingreedee-int! Anchovies!! Can't wait to start cookin for de burfday kitties! Raja, Shadow and Chaos... ur pardee will be extra speshul!!! Wait... did I just hear dat we iz celebratin Gabby, Gizmo, Alex an' Brianna's burfdays too??? Woo hoo!!! Hi Christie,

Willie sounds like he's having a nice day and nice blues today, too. Happy Valentine's Day. Enjoy your walk.

Hey Willie, Maggie says she can't wait to try the liver smoothie sounds really good! The birthday kitties will love it.

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

Just got the call from the vet, and Willie's biopsy results lean towards pemphigus (auto-immune), though it apparently isn't a classic case of it. We are scheduled to start treatment with cyclosporine in the morning. For those unfamiliar, it is not a steriod, but rather is an immune suppresant originally developed for helping ward off organ rejection in transplant patients.

Anybody have any knowledge or experience with cycolosporine? I'll be cross-posting in Health as well!

Glad that we have an answer and can move forward. Forgot to ask if I need to keep him on the poultry elimination. I have 30 lbs of ground venison still in the freezer, so we'll be sticking with the venison diet, but it would be nice to get him away from the seafood treats!

ETA: just spoke with the vet tech. Looks like Willie can have poultry again!

ETA: just did a search on cyclosporine on here... looks like Marjorie had recommended it for us. :) Thanks!!

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

YAY! I am really glad that you have an answer from the vet and now know what you are dealing with. I don't know the drug, but am hopeful - it is nice that it is not a steroid. Good luck with it all.

I love the window perch for Willie - it sounds so perfect for a kitty. Mannie would love something like that - wish I had an area where I could set that up.

Nice too on the weather improvement, and that you can get out for walks. I used to love to do that at lunchtime when I was working.

Willie - we are all set. thanks man for making the smoothies - I love the anchovy touch - exceptional! We wills serve them up with the menu fuds. Uhhhhh - can I sample one before we get there - they sound too good for me to wait, ya know? See tou soon!!! ~~ Mannie

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

I'm glad Willie can have chicken again wooohoooo.

Also good to know what you are dealing with and getting a treatment plan in place. I'll be watching for updates.

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

I've seen it used with heart transplant patients but steroids are usually on board as well (and antibiotics). It's been a while since I've seen it used and I'd have to go back and do some research. If you want info from a med/vet library, let me know. I have access to most journals.

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

Hi Christie, so glad you heard from the Vet and have a diagnosis and now can treat it. I've heard of cyclosporine for humans in treating autoimmune diseases. Great Willie can have his poultry. We will be thinking good thoughts tomorow for Willie in starting his treatment.

Re: 2/14 Willie AMPS 180, +2.5~135 (vet update)

Thanks, Sienne. If I see any cites, I will let you know! I am a bit concerned that the vet doesn't want to continue the antibiotics after we finish this course (we have a week left). I am going to stop giving him the probiotics. Concerned about introducing bacteria into a cat that is having his immune system intentionally compromised.

Poor Willie is not a happy camper. Having chewed himself up today, we put on the lampshade. He has run into walls, tried to jump his way out of it, and parked on the top of the couch (better peripheral vision??). He is seriously not pleased. Gave him some Bach Flower Remedy, and he's finally laying down after a half hour of wandering around trying to get it off.

Trying so hard not to laugh. Mostly failing.

Will be interesting to see where these numbers go. Sucks not knowing how low he went today!

Have a great evening, everyone!

Ohhh sweet sweet Willie, don't they all just hate the dreaded cone. I also opened a few windows yesterday to get in some fresh air, and all the pets just love it. We are all longing for spring now. I'm keeping our fingers and paws firmly crossed that Mr Willie will soon be feeling much better.

Take care and have a good night.
