 Hi Jill. That was quick.
Fifteen years ago, 3 itty bitty kitties, stumbled out of a barn, half starved, and dehydrated. Their mama had been killed in the road, and the lady didn't know she'd had kittens.
The children brought the kitties, to my DD next door, because she was a licensed wildlife rehabilitater, and thought she would know what to do to save them. The owner couldn't afford to take them to the vet, and said they would have to die. Susan got them vet care, and was able to save two of them and kept them.
One day she wanted to go out of town and asked me if I would petsit. I had no experience with cats, and was reluctant.
Finally I said "yeah, I'll watch your kittens, but I ain't gonna like it and don't even hope I'll keep them."
I had just spent a fortune on the dog's hospitalization. Now he was sick with a different terminal illness....no more animals.
I can't afford any more animals.
She laughed and said " Hahaha, you can call one of them Checkbook" So I did!!
That was the beginning of my love affair with Checkers!
