Yesterday's thread

Super late today because I was distracted lol

It was a quiet day. Xander's been playful/restless the past couple of days. I'm getting worried he'll start to really wanna bite those sensors off. :arghh: Wish he'd tolerate clothes so I could give it a little extra protection.

After he got his last Libre off it left a ring of what I assume was the glue the vet used. The first one didn't leave anything behind, but I didn't see them take it off so I don't know if they used a solvent or what, and as I keep mentioning, it seems like this most recent vet tech didn't know what they were doing. I was waiting til it was a little less irritated to try washing it off (and now we have the Brava spray the Libre for Pets group recommends), but now it looks like maybe he was biting that spot because there's suddenly little picky wounds. Nothing major, but it looks irritated. Obviously not going to use anything on it until that heals. (FWIW, we did not use any kind of glue with the new sensor. Just shaved, cleaned the area with alcohol and used a Skin Tac wipe. Fingers crossed.)

Hope everyone had a safe and uneventful Tuesday!

Oh Xander boy, leave those sensors on a little longer for Mama.

I gave up with them, I soooo wanted them to work! The last one was put on in a perfect spot then an edge of the paper stuff came up and Petey just couldn't leave it alone -I wished I had some skin glue to glue it back down.

He had a ring too, it looked like he pulled the fur out with it.

Have a great day Brianna!

Hi Brianna, sounds like the skin is irritated from the glue and the Libre being ripped off.
You can try some coconut oil as it can help the skin to heal plus if he licks it, it won’t hurt him.

I’m glad you will use appropriate things to remove the Libre going forward so you hopefully won’t see an irritation.
I use coconut oil mixed with a little bit of baby oil on a qtip and very gently and slowly lift the sensor off (if needed a little Brava spray).

Have you tried various types of coverings to see if Xander would tolerate wearing something to cover the Libre?
Ivy wears a “tube top” with no sleeves and she’s pretty ok with it.
Here is a photo for reference.

And I’ll show another one from what someone else used:

I hope Xander gets used to it and leaves it alone! Good luck :bighug::bighug:

Aww I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with them too! They would make life so much easier for everyone involved if they would reliably stick!

Thank you for the suggestion of coconut oil! I'll have to see if I can pick some up. I also just hope it lasts long enough to need to be removed! :nailbiting:

Everything we've ever tried to put on him, he can't stand and gets out of within minutes. Even things like harnesses that are more sturdy, he almost strangled himself getting stuck on the way out of it in the middle of the night (fortunately I happened to wake up and see him stuck and was able to get it off). It really seems like he's more likely to hurt himself trying to get rid of whatever is on him than he is to leave the Libre alone because of it. :( We've tried harnesses, shirts, soft cones. I admittedly haven't tried a wrap, but I feel like that'd probably just be even easier for him to get off than the other things and I'd worry that it'd pull the sensor off with it since it's somewhat tighter. Wish he'd just leave it alone and make one single thing easy on me lol

Hi Brianna, I understand and it’s good you are trying different things because that’s all you can do is keep trying until you find something that works or eventually he gets tired and will learn to leave it alone.
Some cats actually do leave it alone.
I hope he is one of them who does.
I just kept wracking my brain until I came up with the tube top idea because Ivy was chewing T-shirts apart, and her tooth was actually getting stuck on the fabric and the hole she chewed.
That caused me many sleepless nights trying to come up with a solution.
We just keep trying and trying, that’s all we can do, you’re doing great.
I know it’s very overwhelming, but don’t give up. You know him best you’ll come up with a solution.

I always appreciate your responses, Staci! Thank you. Maybe I'll try to find an old shirt to make a tube top out of and see if it makes any difference if he starts messing with the Libre more.
