2-11 Little Man AMPS 189/+2 180/+6 106/PMPS 146/+2.5 136

I just read yesterday’s condo. Sounds like he’s really feeling good! Well, except fir the acid tummy.
He is I just wish his numbers would settle down. And he has been frustratingly cute LOL. Like its maddening how he wont hold still...but how can you be mad when he is feeling so good:p

Ok so just for my own sanity I decided to start checking the food with a carb calculator....I've checked the food in the past because I know the list was older and it always checked out. Well not today!

Both of my go to flavors the senior 11+ that were 1% and 2 % respectively....are now both 5%

I spent 45 mins in our pet store with my phone and carb calculator checking foods! The one 9% to bring him up is now 13%! I am beyond upset. I can handle a batch by batch small difference...but they went off and changed the entire formula. Couple other flavors we used doubled from 3 to 6 or 4 to 8...:(

The two kitten flavors we have been using that are 2% are still 2% and cats like them and a couple labeled sensitive stomach that are simple ingredients not a lot of filler that are 0%....tried the chicken one tonight and they liked that one thank goodness!

I dont know if this explains the numbers he has been throwing or not cause he has taken some dives...but let's see if he can get to a better place now

It's good you caught this! Which brands are these? The cans only have Guaranteed Analysis on their labels. So they don't give you exact numbers in any case.

Purina pro plan focus 11+ senior...the other ones that ended up being skewed were all different flavors of the purina pro plan urinary lines of foods. Thank goodness the kitten formulas and the sensitive stomach ones have some LC we can use regularly...

Do you need to restrict yourself to Pro Plan urinary food? Will a low carb, low phos food not take care of his urinary issues?

No he rarely got the urinary foods. It was mostly my fear of him developing crystals again. I gave him some of the purina urinary a couple times a week and sort of used it as a slightly higher carb if he needed a bump (they were 3 and 4% carb...now both have doubled since they revamped their line of foods apparently)

At dx of fd he was still eating hills script c/d. I took him off of it when I learned how high in carbs even the CD wet was. I add extra water to his food when he eats and he has been doing really well (knock on some wood)

I should note that the purina urinary is not a script. Which is how I was able to find it lower carb. It seems all the script diets run high in carbs for some stupid reason

Purina Pro Plan DM canned is also low carb at 6%. The only prescription diabetic food that is okay for diabetic cats! LOL.
Many cats hate the taste though.
LOL! I had heard that about the taste. The vet that diagnosed wanted me to leave him on the CD...the new vet thinks he should be on the purina DM...I'm good with what we are doing.

Just like human drs they must get kick backs for prescribing it
I am sure that must have been it originally - when you needed an Rx and could buy it from vets only. I don't think you need a script any more and can buy it from pet food stores/sites. So I don't get why they still recommend it.
