Re: 2/1 Tiki - AMPS 63, +2 66,

I am starting to see the, "I no longer need you as much Mom." He is aloof, sleeping in another room, not hanging out with me as much. Must be feeling better....

Re: 2/1 Tiki - AMPS 63

Hi guys .. Beautiful start to the day tiki! It's sad when our kitties don't think they need us anymore .. but don't worry .. I always tell myself it's a phase .. my girls are usually back out of it by the next feeding  have a great day!

Re: 2/1 Tiki - AMPS 63

LOL - I only gave him one can of food last night (as I hate wasting it when he doesn't finish it). So this morning at about 7a he started in with the CUFFING me awake and jumping over me from one side to the other. As soon as I fed him it was a couple of nibbles and off he went to sleep on the couch. Sniff, sniff... But at least for a couple of minutes he was Mama's little man....

Re: 2/1 Tiki - AMPS 63, +2 66, +4 56,

2 hrs to go and he is headed downhill. With my luck he will dip below 50 again and I will be right back on that quarter dose again...fingers crossed! LOL

Well if he dipped below 50 I missed it.

Made soup for dinner and cooked some chicken to throw in it so I gave him a little - his favorite thing ever is chicken. I think I heard him ask for a cigarette after he finished eating it...   Now he just has that half eyed, purring glow about him.

Re: 2/1 Tiki - PMPS 81 General Question

I don't dare ask this (so as not to jinx things) but what leads up to going OTJ? Obviously greens - but how long. Just curious as to the pattern of things and was wondering if we are heading in that direction.

Also - I have not been back to the vet's since she first gave me the insulin. She told me to come back in a week for a blood reading - but thanks to all y'all (hee hee) I have been working with you instead of paying out the nose for readings I was taking myself. Now that he is starting to regulate better I was wondering if I should bring him back. I am kind of scared to go back thinking she will yell for self medicating (ahem).

Thoughts???

Re: 2/1 Tiki - PMPS 81 General Question

hahahaha so he wanted a cigarette after his perfect dinner, eh? too cute!

donna/sam siam asked the very same thing about an OTJ trial tonight. would you put that in your subject line so the right people can answer you? i don't have experience with that - there are guidelines for feeding and testing times to monitor them during the trial.

but isn't this the very most exciting thing ever!?! :-D

as far as the vet - personally, i'd wait til the trial is over and email the link to tiki's spreadsheet. why pay for more tests when you're doing it yourself?

Like I said, I don't want to jinx anything but I want to be aware of where I am (possibly) headed so I know what to look for and blah blah blah....

I am happy to see him getting better, but the better he gets the less he "needs" me. It's kind of sad. It's like he is going away to college - LOLOLOL!!!!! Pulling away and aloof.....just like a CAT! :YMSIGH:

punkin stopped wanting to be held months ago as his acro progressed. i'm guessing he has a headache much of the time from the tumor. he used to be a lap fungus - if i sat down he was on my lap. sometimes i walked around the house holding him like a 2 year old on my hip while i did stuff. now if i pick him up he wants down almost immediately. i got all excited cuz he climbed up on me and snoozed for 10 minutes last night. first time i'd held him in at least a week other than testing him. so i totally understand.

but tiki will never stop needing you! he's just feeling better - and that's a wonderful thing!

When a cat is heading toward an OTJ trial, the insulin dose is gradually worked down to a very small amount -- a 0.1u or even a "fat 0" dose. The idea is that you systematically work the dose down to nothing so that you are providing support for the pancreas for as long as possible. Once you have stopped insulin, you continue to monitor at your usual shot times for 2 weeks. If numbers stay in the normal range, we have a party!
